Registered Nurse - Travel/Contract Position

Location: Charlottesville, Virginia
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Unit & Patient Population

• Unit: 6North, 12-bed unit
• Level: Intermediate care using critical care and neuroscience principles
• Patient types:

  • Transfers from Neuro ICU
  • Neuro trauma patients
  • Subarachnoid, intraventricular, intracerebral hemorrhage
  • ENT cancer patients post tumor resection and flap reconstruction
  • Post-operative spine patients
  • Various neurological conditions
• Patient ratio: 1 nurse to 3 patients
• Shift: Nights
• Schedule: Every other weekend and every other holiday off; time off can be approved up to 40 hours

Required Certifications & Licenses

• BLS (Basic Life Support) - required
• ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - required
• NIH Stroke Certification - required before start (can be submitted pending)
• Must have or be able to submit Virginia nursing license pending
• Epic experience required

Experience Requirements

• Specialty: Registered Nurse (Neuroscience/Neuro Intermediate Care)

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

• Background checks:

  • 7-year criminal background check within 60 days of start, updated annually

• Health documents:

  • Physical exam attesting ability to meet job demands, updated annually
  • Immunizations/vaccinations: Tdap, TB (2-step PPD or Qgold), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella, Flu seasonal vaccination (no exemptions allowed)
  • Drug testing: 10-panel including marijuana and fentanyl, within 2 months of start and updated annually
• Facility-specific forms: Professional appearance guidelines, release authorization, TB screening, traveler compliance, fit testing acknowledgment (if patient-facing), latex allergy questionnaire (if applicable)
• Pass/Fail cardiac rhythm assessment required during orientation for adult inpatient RN positions
• References: Proof of 2 clinical references or hospital evaluations
• Skills checklist and competency exams required and must be updated annually

Additional Notes

• Must adhere to facility float policy
• Orientation includes pass/fail testing on cardiac rhythms and medication knowledge
• CPI certification required only for Behavioral Health nurses (not applicable here)
