Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Job - Wilmington, North Carolina
Position Overview
- Specialty: Registered Nurse
- Location: Wilmington, NC
- Unit: Neuro Unit
- Shift: Night shift (36 or 48 hours accepted; OT billed only after 48 hours if working 48-hour shifts)
- Ratios: 1:6
- Contract Length: 26 weeks
- Weekend Requirement: 5-6 weekend shifts (approximately every other weekend)
- Float Requirement: Yes, travelers float first
- RTO (Return to Office) Policy: No RTO after booking; max 7 days allowed for RTO; call-offs or additional RTO may lead to cancellation and Do Not Rehire status
- Storm/Hurricane Team: Contract staff expected to work during catastrophic events, mass casualty, or disaster situations
- Patient Diagnoses: General medicine with a focus on neurological conditions
- Unit Systems: Pyxis (medication), EPIC (documentation), SBAR (communication)
- Scheduling: Manager schedules
- Orientation: 24 hours
- Scrubs: Navy Blue
- Additional Requirement: Must pass EKG testing prior to start
Required Skills and Certifications
- Minimum 2 years experience (Traveler experience not required)
- Teamwork approach to patient care
- Focus on patient safety
- Certifications:
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
Preferred Skills and Certifications
- NIH Stroke Certification
- Neurology experience preferred
- Experience or willingness to learn charge nurse role
Background and Compliance Requirements
- Criminal background check within 90 days for all locations lived in the last 7 years (local, federal, national databases, DOJ sex offender search)
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 90 days
- Education verification for highest degree earned specific to profession (RNs may start with pending verification if license is valid)
- State-specific searches for North Carolina Healthcare Personnel Registry and Division of Medical Assistance within 90 days
- Drug testing within 30 days of start (10-panel negative screen required)
- Physical exam within 1 year of start (updated annually if past positive TB)
- Fit mask testing required (N95 or PAPR training acceptable)
- Immunizations and titers required:
- Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella: titer or 2 vaccines; boosters required if negative/equivocal
- Varicella: titer or 2 vaccines; boosters required if negative/equivocal
- Hepatitis B: titer, series, or facility-specific declination form if negative/equivocal
- Flu vaccine or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season (9/1 - 10/31)
- TB testing: PPD, Qgold, or Tspot within 1 year; if positive, chest x-ray within 5 years and physician-signed TB questionnaire within 30 days of start
Competency and Testing Requirements
- Medication/Pharmacology competency exam as applicable
- Color Blind Testing within 1 year via Relias (score ≥80%)
- Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam required with strict passing criteria (82% or higher, 3 attempts max)
- Other certifications as applicable based on unit and specialty (e.g., PALS, NRP, CHEMO, TNCC, EFM)
Facility-Specific Requirements
- Completion of Non-Novant Health Worker Orientation modules (up to 8 hours) prior to start
- Submission of a passport-style photo for badge creation (white background, no headwear except glasses, business attire)
- Signing of confidentiality agreement, education roster, tobacco-free campus acknowledgement, hospital policies, and other facility forms
- Completion of Medication Safety module with certificate of completion
- Participation in Storm/Hurricane Team and possible reassignment during contract
- Radiation badge required for applicable specialties (e.g., Cath Lab, Radiology)
- Corp ID setup and I-Learn account activation within 72 hours of contract signing
- Online NEO education modules required prior to start for orthopedic hospital travelers
Additional Notes
- Travelers must be prepared for possible reassignment to different units during the contract
- Must adhere to dress code: Navy Blue scrubs
- Must comply with all health and safety protocols, including flu vaccination or approved exemption
- Must complete all required background checks, certifications, and competency exams before start date
This position is ideal for RNs with neuro experience or interest, who are comfortable working night shifts with a 1:6 patient ratio, and who can commit to a 26-week travel contract in Wilmington, NC.
