Location: Indianapolis, Indiana

Position Details
- Specialty: Registered Nurse (OR RN Core 6)

- Trauma Level I Experience: Minimum 2 years required, with at least 1 year in Level I trauma experience
- First Time Travelers: Accepted
- Call Requirements: 6 call shifts in a 6-week period (can vary)
- Holidays: Must work 2 out of 3 major holidays
- Scheduling: No block scheduling
- Floating: Clinicians will float within scope to meet facility needs (except CV & Transplant)
- Licensure: Indiana state license and required certifications must be in hand before submission (pending licenses not accepted)
- Locals: Accepted (travelers residing in Indiana may have pay adjustments)
Unit Information
- Units: Core 3 & 4 including General Surgery, Plastic, Gynecology, ENT, Trauma, Neuro, Orthopedics, GU, Colorectal Robotics
- Average Daily Census: 70-80 patients
- Rooms: 21
Certifications Required
- BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA or RQI accepted (required for all candidates)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA or RQI accepted
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) - AHA or RQI accepted
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) - AHA NRP only
- TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) - as applicable
- CHEMO (Chemotherapy) - as applicable
- EFM (Electronic Fetal Monitoring) - as applicable
- NIH Stroke Certification - as applicable
- Orientation Safety Manual Acknowledgement (HIPAA)
- State License Verification (within 30 days before start)
Note: Certification requirements may vary by unit; verify accordingly.
Required Competencies
- Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam (not required for Techs or RRTs)
- Color Blind Testing (Ishihara exam or equivalent, minimum 100% score)
- Unit Competency Exam
Background and Compliance Requirements
- Background Check: Must be completed within 90 days of start, including 7 years of residence/work history, SSN trace, criminal checks, sex offender registry, FACIS Level III, education verification, and international search if applicable
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start
- Education Verification: Completed by 3rd party; may be pending at start but must be obtained
- Employment Application: Must be current, include work history, and explain any gaps over 30 days
- References: Minimum 2 references from recent employment within 2 years; must be from charge, manager, supervisor, or above
- Skills Checklist: Required within 12 months of start and annually
- Application must cover 7 years with all gaps accounted for
Health and Immunization Requirements
- Physical Exam: Completed within 12 months of start date
- Fit Mask Test: Within 12 months of start; must include make, model, size, and date; tested with approved respirators (3M N95 models or Honeywell N95)
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap: Preferred but not required; strongly recommended
- Negative TB Test or Chest X-Ray: TB test (PPD, QuantiFERON-TB Gold, or T-SPOT) within 1 year of start; if positive, chest x-ray within 2 years required
- TB Questionnaire: Required and must be updated annually
- Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines required; declinations/exemptions not accepted
- Hepatitis B: Series, titer, or signed declination required
- Varicella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines required; declinations/exemptions not accepted; history of disease not accepted
- Drug Testing: Negative 10-panel drug screen within 12 months of start (includes amphetamines, marijuana, cocaine, opiates, PCP)
- Flu Vaccination/Documentation (2025-26 season): Required for all candidates starting 9/30 or later; declinations not accepted; medical or religious exemptions require approval
- Color Blind Exam: Ishihara or equivalent, minimum 100% score

- IU Health requires completion of mandatory RRT modules for Respiratory Therapists (not applicable for RN)
- On-site Fit Testing available only as last resort with limitations
- Periop/OR RN travelers are exempt from Indiana RN work restrictions effective 11/30/24
Summary
This is a 13-week travel contract for an experienced Registered Nurse with a minimum of 3 years of RN experience and at least 2 years in Level I trauma, including 1 year specifically in Level I trauma. The role requires flexibility with call shifts, holiday work, and floating across various surgical and trauma units. Indiana state licensure and multiple certifications are mandatory. Comprehensive health screenings, immunizations, and background checks are required prior to start. First-time travelers are welcome.
