Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)

Job Description

• Work primarily with behavioral health patients (behavioral health experience preferred).
• Patient Ratios: 1:5-6
• Required Years of Experience: 2 years in MS/Telemetry
• First-time travelers accepted
• Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
• No on-call requirement
• Floating required within scope to meet facility needs (may float between like units)
• Block scheduling accommodation possible
• Locals not accepted (must be outside 50-mile radius from main campus)
• Pending license not accepted
• Return staff policy: Must be gone for 1 year to return as a traveler
• System contract limit: Maximum of 2 contracts (can extend once), then must be gone for 6 months before returning

Required Certifications & Competencies

• ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support): AHA or Military only; documentation must reflect legal name
• BLS (Basic Life Support): AHA or Military only
• PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support): Required for certain units (ED, OR, Peds ED, PICU, etc.)
• NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program): Required for L&D, FCCU, NICU units
• NIH Stroke Certification: Must be updated annually; required for ED, Psych ED, ICUs, Step Down, Med Surg, L&D, Express Care
• Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam: Required and must be renewed annually; passing score of 80% required with up to 3 attempts
• Pass/Fail Testing (EKG/Medication): Required for awareness on multiple units; candidates have 3 attempts to pass with remediation required after failures

Background & Health Requirements

• Background check required within 6 months of start (includes SSN trace, 7-year county residence, nationwide search, sex offender search, international search if applicable)
• Physical exam required within 1 year, updated annually
• Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year of start (annual renewal required)
• Immunizations required:

  • TDAP (within last 10 years)
  • Rubeola (Measles) - titer or 2 vaccines
  • Mumps - titer or 2 vaccines
  • Rubella - titer or 2 vaccines
  • Varicella - titer or 2 vaccines
  • Hepatitis B - vaccine series, positive titer, or signed declination accepted
• Drug testing: Negative 10-panel drug screen within 30 days of start
• Flu vaccine required year-round; medical or religious exemptions accepted with facility-specific forms and approval
• COVID-19 vaccination not required but documentation accepted if available

Scheduling & Work Conditions

• Weekend shifts required every other weekend
• Floating between units within scope of practice required
• Call off policy: 2 shifts per 13-week assignment allowed; after that, all contracted hours guaranteed

Additional Notes

• Prior travel experience is not required
• Multiple facility-specific documents and acknowledgments must be reviewed and signed prior to start (e.g., confidentiality agreement, job description, emergency contact form, etc.)
• Photo for badge required (professional passport-style photo with solid background, no large earrings, face piercings, unnatural hair colors, or head coverings unless for religious reasons)
• Parking registration required if driving to work

This position is ideal for Registered Nurses with at least 2 years of MS/Telemetry experience who are comfortable working with behavioral health patients and are open to travel assignments in North Carolina.
