Job Opportunity: Respiratory / Neuro Diagnostics - Richmond, Virginia
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Nights
Facility: Large 600+ bed hospital recognized for excellence in nursing, technology, and infection prevention.
Experience Requirements
- Specialty: Respiratory / Neuro Diagnostics
- Required Years of Experience: Not explicitly stated; assume minimum 1 year or more based on specialty norms.
- Prior Travel Experience: Not required (unit accepts first-time travelers).
Certifications & Licenses Required
- State License: Permanent VA state license required (temporary RN licenses not accepted). Not required for EEG Tech or Cath Lab Tech.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) - AHA only
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) - AHA only
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) - AHA only (if applicable)
- Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) (if applicable)
- Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) (if applicable)
- Tech Certification Verification:
- Certified OR Tech / Surgical Tech (CST) - NCCT accepted
- EEG Techs - National certifications not required but clinical experience is required
- MRI Tech - ARRT required (AMRIT not accepted)
- Sonography Unit - ARRT(S), RDMS, RDCS, CCI, or RVT accepted
- NIH Stroke Certification (if applicable)
- NURSYS Verification (for RNs)
Background & Compliance Requirements
- Criminal background check within 60 days of start, including all states lived/worked in past 7 years.
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start.
- Education verification or proof of diploma from accredited program.
- Fingerprinting: Virginia State Police National Criminal Background Check required for certain units and candidates; results can pend but proof of submission must be on file.
- Virginia Central Registry (CPS) Search and results required for specific units and candidates; can start with results pending if proof of submission is on file.
- References: 2 required.
- Complete application/resume required.
- Skills checklist required and must be updated annually.
Health & Safety Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year attesting ability to meet physical demands.
- Immunizations and titers required:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (vaccine or declination)
- Negative TB test (Q-gold/T-spot within 30 days of start or two PPDs)
- Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella titers with booster if low titer
- Hepatitis B (titer, vaccine series, or declination)
- Varicella titers with booster if low titer
- Drug testing within 60 days of start (9-panel minimum, instant screens not accepted).
- Seasonal Flu vaccination or approved exemption required for the 2025-26 season.
- HIPAA and confidentiality agreements required.
Competency & Orientation
- Medication/Pharmacology competency exam required as applicable.
- Color blindness testing required.
- Abuse reporting competency required (covering physical/sexual abuse, domestic violence, neglect/exploitation).
- Orientation includes exams/tests such as Pharmacology, Point of Care Testing, Airborne Precaution Mask Fitting, and Basic Knowledge Assessment Tool (BKAT) for certain units.
- Completion of assigned learning modules (~6 hours) during orientation week.
Additional Notes
- Candidates must carry government-issued photo ID during hours of service.
- Proof of primary residence must match compact licensure.
- No onsite certification renewals; renewals must be scheduled prior to contract start.
- Candidates can start with some background or fingerprinting results pending if proof of submission is on file.
- Mask (cloth acceptable), non-wireless headphones, and a laptop or cell phone are recommended to bring.
