Registered Nurse (RN) - Cardiovascular Unit (CVU)
Location: Petoskey, Michigan
Employment Type: Temporary
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Overview
- Provide nursing care on the Cardiovascular Unit (CVU), which cares for over 4,000 cardiology patients annually.
- Patient population includes those undergoing procedures such as PTCA, stents, TAVR, MitraClip, bi-ventricular pacemakers, and approximately 300 open heart surgery patients (18-24 hours post-op).
- Specialized care for congestive heart failure and electrophysiology studies.
- Participate in national clinical trials managed by the NISUS research department.
- CVU recognized with a Silver level Beacon Award (2014) and redesigned by AACN (2017).
- Facility recognized as a Top 50 Heart Hospital in the U.S.
Key Responsibilities
- Use clinical judgment to diagnose and treat patient responses to actual or potential health conditions.
- Float to similar units as needed.
Requirements
- Minimum 1+ year of RN experience (floating experience not accepted).
- Comfort with EKG interpretation - Required.
- Experience in Neuro, CVICU, Trauma - Preferred.
- Experience managing ventilators - Preferred.
- Experience with CRRT and balloon pumps - Preferred.
- Must be willing to float to similar units - Required.
- Michigan RN license verification required (LARA and Nursys).
- Skills checklist completed within one year for RN specialties required.
- Physical copies of certifications only required if specifically listed.
- Full-time employees of the facility are not eligible for contract hire within six months of employment.
Certifications Required
- ACLS
- BLS
Attendance Policy
- Strict 3-strike attendance policy: termination after 3 absences or being more than 20 minutes late for scheduled shifts.
- Exceptions considered for communicable disease or hospitalization with supporting evidence.
- Policy effective starting 6/1/2024.

- 202-bed regional hospital serving 22 counties in northern Lower Michigan and eastern Upper Peninsula.
- Over 230 physicians covering nearly all medical and surgical specialties.
- Emphasis on cardiology, cancer, orthopedics, and neurosciences.
- EMR system: Cerner
- Dress code: Navy blue scrubs

- Local traveler policy applies for those living within 35 miles of the facility.
