Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (PICU) - Charleston, South Carolina
Position Details
- Specialty: Registered Nurse (PICU)
- Location: Charleston, South Carolina
- Employment Type: Travel/Contract
- Contract Length: 13 weeks
- Shift: 3x12 hour shifts, rotating, primarily nights
- Nights: 2 months (7p-7:30a)
- Days: 1 month (7a-7:30p)
- Weekend Requirement:
- Up to 5 weekend shifts per schedule for nights (including Fri/Sat/Sun)
- 4 weekend shifts per schedule for days (including Sat/Sun)
- On-call: Not required
- Patient Ratios: 1:1, 1:2, 1:3 (mixed ICU and Stepdown patients)
- Floating: Floating within scope to meet facility needs is required
Unit Description
- 28-bed Pediatric Intensive Care Unit caring for children ages 0-18
- Patient population includes medical and surgical diagnoses such as respiratory compromise, trauma, post-op surgical patients, neurology/neurosurgery
- Provides advanced therapies including ECMO, CRRT, renal/peritoneal dialysis
- Pediatric palliative care available as needed
- Multidisciplinary team includes RNs, Patient Care Technicians, Respiratory Therapy, Pediatric Dietitians, and Pharmacists
Experience & Licensure Requirements
- Years of PICU Experience Required: 2 years
- Accepts 1st time travelers: Yes
- Preferred Experience: ECMO, CRRT
- Licensure: South Carolina RN license or Multi-State/Compact RN license required
- Certifications Required:
- BLS (American Heart Association only)
- PALS (American Heart Association only)
Certifications & Competencies
- Additional Certifications (as applicable):
- ACLS (not required for pediatric units)
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
- TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) - not required for ER RNs
- EFM (Electronic Fetal Monitoring) - not required for NICU
- Competency Exams: Required as applicable, including medication/pharmacology competency
- Color Blind Testing: Required prior to start
Health & Safety Requirements
- Physical Exam: Initial and updated annually
- Fit Mask Test: N95 fit test within 90 days prior to start, renewed annually
- Immunizations/Vaccinations:
- Tdap within 10 years or declination form
- Negative TB test (T-spot or Q-Gold) within 90 days or proof of prior positive with chest x-ray
- Measles, Mumps, Rubella (positive titer or vaccination series)
- Hepatitis B (titer, vaccine series, or declination)
- Varicella (positive titer or vaccination series)
- Seasonal Flu Vaccine or Medical/Religious Exemption (required during flu season)
- COVID-19 vaccination highly preferred; declination form required if not vaccinated
- Drug Testing: 10-panel drug screen within 90 days of start
Background & Verification
- Annual background check including 7 years of residence/work history
- Required searches: SSN trace, state and national criminal, sex offender registry, FACIS 3, EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG
- Education verification and diploma/transcripts preferred
- Work history verification of last 3 clinical employers required
- NURSYS verification for licensure
Additional Information
- Local candidates: Accepted on a case-by-case basis
- Block scheduling: Possible with manager approval
- Guaranteed hours: Facility may call off 1 shift per 2 weeks
- Hurricane Season: Travelers may be assigned to emergency response teams from June through November (peak in August and September)
