Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position

Location: Wilmington, North Carolina
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Overview

• Employment Type: Travel/Contract
• Shift: 12-hour nights (18:45 - 07:15)
• Hours: 36 or 48 hours per week (48 hours accepted with OT billed after 48 hours)
• Target Patient Ratios: 1:6-7
• Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
• Call Requirement: Call required if scheduled on call shift
• Float Requirement: Floating to similar units and alternate care locations with inpatient holding
• Must be able to work holidays
• Assigned to Inclement Weather Team and Storm/Hurricane Team; may be required to report during catastrophic events, mass casualty, or disaster
• Charge nurse role required for night travelers

Patient Population & Unit Details

• Patient Population: Adults and geriatrics, general medical/surgical patients
• Daily census approximately 43 patients
• Unit Procedures:

  • Insulin drips
  • Heparin drips
  • Wound vac dressing changes
  • High flow oxygen
  • Occasional short-term BiPAP respiratory support (no additional training needed)
• No PCU level patients on this unit
• Unit Systems: PYXIS, EPIC, SBAR

Required Skills & Certifications

• Minimum Specialty Experience: 2 years Registered Nurse experience
• Prior Travel Experience: Not required (1st time travelers accepted)
• EPIC experience required
• Must be able to manage insulin and heparin drips
• BCLS certification required
• Charge nurse experience preferred
• CPI certification preferred

Orientation & Training

• Unit Orientation: 24 hours
• Must pass EKG competency testing prior to start
• Must complete Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam and Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam (82% passing score required)
• Color Blind Test within 1 year required
• Must complete Non-Novant Health Worker Orientation (approx. 8 hours)
• Assigned to complete Storm/Hurricane Team training and may be required to work during disasters

Additional Requirements

• Must be able to work holidays and possibly care for COVID-19 patients
• Must participate in call and float duties as assigned
• Must be able to work every other weekend
• Must pass background checks and drug screening (9-panel within 6 months)
• Required health documents include:

  • Negative TB or chest X-ray within 1 year (or proof of past positive with CXR within 5 years)
  • Immunizations or titers for Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella
  • Flu vaccination or approved exemption during flu season
• Must provide photo ID and complete required facility-specific documents including confidentiality agreement, medication safety training, and hospital policies acknowledgment
• Must complete Corporate ID setup and I-Learn training modules prior to start
• Must submit a passport-style photo for badge creation

Notes

• RTO (Return to Office) after booking is not allowed and cannot be worked out onsite; excessive call-offs or RTO may result in cancellation
• Traveler will be assigned to Inclement Weather Team and may be required to report during severe weather or disaster events
• Scrubs: Navy color, not provided by facility

This position is ideal for experienced Registered Nurses comfortable with night shifts, charge nurse responsibilities, and working in a fast-paced medical/surgical environment with adult and geriatric patients. Prior travel experience is not required, making it suitable for first-time travel nurses.
