Registered Nurse (MSDU RN) - Rochester, NY

Job Details
- Specialty: Medical-Surgical Unit (MSDU) Registered Nurse
- Shift: 3x12 hour night shifts
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
- Location: Rochester, New York
- License Requirement: Must have New York RN license in hand (no exceptions)
- Experience Required: Minimum 1 year in specialty
- Prior Travel Experience: Not required (first-time travelers accepted)
- Local Radius: Must live within 75 miles
Patient Care & Unit Description
- Patient ratio: 1:5 to 1:7 for MedSurg patients
- Unit: Intermediate Care Unit (IMCU) - critical care step-down unit
- Patient population: Adult acute care patients requiring specialized care beyond general MedSurg
- Monitoring: Continuous pulse-oximetry and telemetry
- Care includes:
- Airway management and acute BIPAP support
- Management of arterial lines, central lines, and titrated medicated IV infusions
- Unit size: 26 beds
- Facility type: Tertiary Care Hospital with 528 staffed beds
Required Skills & Certifications
- Certifications:
- BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA provider/instructor/RQI accepted
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) as required by unit
- Other certifications as required by unit (PALS, NRP, TNCC, EFM, NIH Stroke Certification)
- Clinical Skills:
- Cardiac monitoring and emergency response (dysrhythmia interpretation and management, rapid response/code team participation)
- IV therapy and phlebotomy (peripheral line care/management)
- Respiratory care (nasal cannula, oxygen masks, portable oxygen tanks, non-invasive airway management)
- Isolation precautions
- Charting: Must have EPIC experience
Compliance & Documentation Requirements
- Government-issued photo ID (Driver’s License/State ID)
- Background checks including:
- 7-year criminal background check (felony checks)
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks
- Education verification (primary source)
- Foreign equivalency evaluation if applicable
- State-specific requirements for New York (e.g., Nurse Aide Registry, Sex Offender Registry, Medicaid Exclusion List)
- Health documents including:
- Physical exam (within 1 year)
- Fit mask test (annual)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray (within 1 year)
- Immunizations or titers for Rubeola, Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella
- Drug screening (within 30 days of start)
- Flu vaccination or declination during flu season
- Eye exam (Snellen, within 1 year)
- COVID vaccination copy preferred but not required
- Employment history verification and references (2 references within 3 years required for Aya candidates)
- Competency exams and skills checklists as required annually
- Orientation safety manual acknowledgement
- State license primary source verification within 30 days of start
- NURSYS verification within 30 days of start
Additional Notes
- Candidates must complete all health-related requirements and lab work within 5 days of signing the contract.
- The unit provides care to patients transferred from Emergency Department, PACU, ICU, and MedSurg floors.
- The team uses a multi-disciplinary approach to provide vigilant and compassionate care.
- Scrub color: Any combination of navy and white allowed.
This position is ideal for RNs with at least 1 year of MedSurg experience, who hold a current NY license, and are comfortable working night shifts in a critical care step-down environment. Prior travel experience is not required.
