Job Opportunity: Laboratory Specialist (MLS) - Travel/Contract

Location: Largo, Maryland
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Start Date: January 5, 2026
Shift: 5 days a week, 8-hour shifts (07:30 AM - 4:00 PM), primarily days; flexibility required for possible rotating day/evening shifts
Hours: 40 hours per week
Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend may be required
Holidays: Required as scheduled
On-Call: Not required
Floating: May be required within the department

Experience Requirements

• Minimum 2 years of experience in the Laboratory specialty
• First-time travelers accepted if they have strong experience
• Prior travel experience is NOT required

Licenses & Certifications

• ASCP certification required
• ASCP-MLS and BLS preferred
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (AHA only) recommended
• Other certifications (ACLS, PALS, NRP, CHEMO, TNCC, EFM, etc.) may be applicable depending on unit/job description

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

• Government-issued photo ID required
• I9 or attestation required
• Background checks including 7-year criminal search, SSN trace, nationwide, sex offender, OFAC, education verification, and state-specific exclusions (Maryland Medicaid Sanctioned Providers List)
• EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start
• Education verification for highest level of education
• Physical exam within 1 year of start, including Latex screening
• Fit mask test within 1 year of start
• Immunizations and titers required:

  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (if working with children)
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray with annual updates
  • Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella (positive titer or vaccination proof)
  • Hepatitis B (positive titer or declination accepted)
• Negative 9-panel drug screen within 30 days prior to start (instant tests NOT accepted)
• Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required for 2025-26 season
• COVID vaccine no longer required for this location, but documentation or declination collected for tracking

Competency & Testing

• Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam (as applicable)
• Color Blind Testing (required for all candidates)
• Competency Exam (as applicable)
• Age Specific Competency Exam (required for all, including CNAs)
• Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam (required for most units except certain specialties)

Additional Requirements

• Two supervisory references within 1 year of start
• Employment application/resume completed within 30 days of start
• Verification of previous 5 years of employment history (attestation accepted if necessary)
• Photo for badge (passport-style with solid white/beige background)
• Confidentiality agreement and dress code acknowledgment prior to start
• Security ID application must be completed within 72 hours of signing contract
• May be required to complete Epic Portfolio Training Test Out Form if applicable

Notes

• Flexibility in shift scheduling and floating within the department may be required
• Holidays and every other weekend coverage expected as scheduled
• No on-call duties required for this position

This position offers a structured 13-week travel contract with a reputable healthcare system in Maryland, suitable for MLS professionals with at least 2 years of experience and appropriate certifications. First-time travelers with strong experience are welcome to apply.
