Job Summary: Laboratory Specialist (MLS) - Travel/Contract

Location: Largo, Maryland
Contract Length: 13 weeks (approximately 13 weeks)
Shift: 5 days a week, 8-hour shifts (15:30 - 00:00), with flexibility for rotating day/evening or evening/night shifts as needed
Schedule: Every other weekend may be required; holidays required as scheduled
On-Call: Not required
Floating: May be required within the department

Experience Requirements

• Specialty: Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS)
• Years of Experience Required: 2 years
• Prior Travel Experience: Not required; first-time travelers with strong experience are accepted

Licenses & Certifications

• Required: ASCP certification
• Preferred: ASCP-MLS and BLS (Basic Life Support)
• Additional certifications may be applicable depending on unit (e.g., ACLS, PALS, NRP, etc.)—refer to job specifics

Job Responsibilities & Expectations

• Work primarily evening shifts with potential rotation to day or night shifts
• Flexibility to work holidays and every other weekend as scheduled
• May be required to float within the department
• No on-call duties

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

• Government-issued photo ID required
• I9 or attestation required
• Background checks including 7-year criminal search, education verification, and various federal/state screenings
• Physical exam within 1 year of start, including Latex screening
• Fit test within 1 year of start
• Immunizations and titers required: Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella, Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap, Flu vaccine or approved exemption (for 2025-26 season)
• Negative 9-panel drug screen within 30 days prior to start (instant tests not accepted)
• TB testing and questionnaire as per facility requirements
• Two supervisory references within 1 year of start
• Employment application/resume within 30 days of start
• Verification of previous 5 years of employment history

Additional Notes

• Candidates must be flexible with shift scheduling and floating within the department
• Required to sign confidentiality and dress code agreements prior to start
• Facility-specific documents and competency exams may be required depending on profession and unit
• COVID vaccination is not required for this location, but vaccine or declination documentation may be collected for tracking purposes

This position is suitable for MLS professionals with at least 2 years of experience who are open to travel assignments and flexible scheduling. Prior travel experience is not mandatory.
