Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position

Location: West Islip, New York
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Details

• Start Dates: 12/29 or 1/5 only
• Shift Options: 4x12-hour shifts or 3x12-hour shifts
• Facility Type: 437-bed teaching hospital
• Patient Ratios: Up to 1:8 (candidates must be comfortable with this ratio)
• Uniform: Scrubs (all white, all navy, or a combination); Croc-type shoes with holes are not allowed
• Experience Required: Minimum 2 years in specialty with permanent license
• Prior Travel Experience: Not required; first-time travelers accepted
• Certifications Required:

  • BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
• Other Requirements:

  • Must have current RN license
  • Comfortable working in a teaching hospital environment

Required Documentation & Compliance

• Driver’s license or state ID with clear picture and address
• 7-year background check including:

  • SS Trace
  • County search
  • National Sex Offender Registry
  • National Criminal Background
  • FACIS Level 3
  • OFAC
  • OMIG (NY Medicaid exclusions)
  • OIG and SAM
• Background checks must be completed within 30 days of start and updated annually
• Education verification: Diploma or transcript acceptable
• State license verification required within 30 days of start (no license hits accepted)
• Physical exam using facility-specific form completed by a physician within 30 days of start
• Fit mask test (N95) completed within 12 months of start
• Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year of start
• Immunizations/vaccinations required or proof of immunity:

  • Rubeola (Measles)
  • Mumps
  • Rubella
  • Hepatitis B (antibody and antigen results required)
  • Varicella
  • Flu seasonal vaccination (declinations allowed; deadline Nov 20)
  • COVID vaccine series preferred
• Drug testing: Standard 9-panel drug screen completed within 30 days of start, updated annually
• References: 2 clinical references required (supervisor level or above)
• Employment history: 7 years with gaps explained; must include at least 1 year experience in specialty or comparable/higher acuity
• Skills checklist current within last year and applicable to position

Competency Exams

• Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam: Minimum score 80%
• Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam: Minimum score 80% (may be required depending on unit)

Summary

This is a travel/contract RN position in a large teaching hospital in New York requiring at least 2 years of RN experience. The role offers 12-hour shifts with patient ratios up to 1:8. First-time travelers are welcome. Candidates must have current BLS and ACLS certifications and meet extensive background, health, and documentation requirements prior to start.
