Position Details

• Shift Length: 12 hours
• Schedule: Multiple start times available (5 AM, 6 AM, 8 AM, 10 AM, 12 PM, 1 PM, 3 PM, 6 PM); schedule set by manager with attempts to accommodate block scheduling
• Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
• Holiday Requirement: Every other holiday
• Call or Standby: No
• Floating: No
• Orientation: One 12-hour shift
• Scrub Color: Caribbean Blue

Experience & Certifications

• Required Specialty Experience: Minimum 2 years of recent ER nursing experience (prefer more)
• Prior Travel Experience: Required
• Certifications Required:

  • BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
  • TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) — may be waived if candidate has strong ER experience without TNCC
• Other Requirements: EPIC electronic medical record experience required

ER Department Information

• Trauma Level: Level 2 for adults and pediatrics; Stroke and STEMI receiving
• Beds: 35 total beds with 2 trauma bays
• Fast Track: Yes, 8 beds
• Triage: Separate triage area using ESI triage algorithm; travelers can perform triage
• Holding Area: Intermixed within ER
• Psych/Seclusion Rooms: Yes, staffed by ER nurses
• Security: In-house 24/7 during highest volume times
• Average Patients per Day: 111
• Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 1:4
• Common Diagnoses: Gunshot wounds, violent crime injuries, strokes, STEMI, mental health issues; pediatric cases include respiratory illness and fractures; trauma patients managed if nurse has trauma background
• Common Drips: All critical care drips
• Physician Coverage: Both physicians and mid-level providers; up to 2 MDs and 3 mid-levels during busiest times
• Charge Nurse: Team lead available 24/7
• Support Staff: LPN on nights, techs, paramedics (tech duties and IVs), techs and nurses perform blood draws and EKGs
• Respiratory Therapist (RT): Not housed in ER but respond to all codes and cover respiratory tasks; RT handles all respiratory equipment
• Monitor Techs: ER nurses monitor and interpret telemetry strips
• Imaging: X-Ray and CT located next door; nurse transports critical patients and all patients after 9 PM (otherwise transport available 9 AM - 9 PM)
• Lab Draws: Performed by RNs and techs

This position is ideal for ER nurses with solid recent experience, required certifications, and prior travel experience who are comfortable working night shifts in a busy Level 2 trauma center with a diverse patient population.
