ICU Travel Nurse Opportunity - Klamath Falls, Oregon
Position Overview
- Specialty: ICU
- Contract Length: 13 weeks
- Shift: 12-hour shifts (0545-1815 and 1745-0615)
- Weekend Requirement: Yes, typically every other weekend
- Holiday Requirement: Yes
- Call/Standby: No
- Floating: Yes, may float to PCU and handle MED/SURG overflow patients
Unit Details
- Patient Ratios:
- Generally 1 RN to 2 patients
- Sometimes 1:1
- ICU nurses care for overflow PCU and MED/SURG patients at ratios of approximately 3-5:1 depending on CNA availability
- Common Patient Types:
- General medical/surgical critical care
- STEMI, pneumonia, COVID, DKA, CVA, alcohol-related cases, overdose
- Nurse Aids: Sometimes available depending on patient mix and staffing
- Hospitalist: In-house 24/7
- Intensivist: Available by page, not in-house 24/7
- Respiratory Therapist: Available 24/7 in ICU
- Respiratory Equipment: V60 ventilators, BiPAP, CPAP, high flow nasal cannula (HFNC)
Skills & Experience Requirements
- Required Certifications: ACLS, BLS
- Experience:
- Minimum 2.5 to 3 years ICU experience preferred
- First-time travel assignments accepted with acceptable experience
- Clinical Skills:
- Ventilator management
- Pressor management
- RN must be able to titrate drips (e.g., Precedex, insulin, epinephrine, norepinephrine, propofol)
- Preferred Experience: IABP and Impella experience ideal but not required (low volume patients)
Orientation & Dress Code
- Orientation: Unit-specific orientation typically 1-2 shifts, depending on experience and prior exposure to the facility
- Dress Code: Clean and professional, no specific scrub color required
Additional Notes
- Housing is very difficult with pets; special housing arrangements must be made prior to placement
- Scheduling for travelers is variable based on unit needs
- Central Monitoring Unit staffed with Monitor Techs 24/7; RNs read and verify cardiac strips
