Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)
Location: West Islip, New York
Specialty: Registered Nurse (RN)
Unit: Emergency Department (ED) / Admissions Unit
Contract Details
- Length: 8 weeks
- Start Dates Available: December 29 or January 5
- Shift Hours: 36 to 48 hours per week preferred
- Ratios: Patient-to-nurse ratios can go up to 1:8; candidates should be comfortable with this
Experience Requirements
- Minimum Specialty Experience: 2 years as a Registered Nurse with a permanent license
- Prior Travel Experience: Not required; first-time travelers accepted
- Local Candidates: Accepted
Certifications Required
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) – required for all ER RN positions
Dress Code
- Scrubs must be all white, all navy, or a combination
- Croc-type shoes with holes are not allowed
Documentation & Compliance Requirements
Licensure & Background
- Permanent RN license required within 30 days of start (no license hits accepted)
- 7-year background check completed within 30 days of start, updated annually
- Various federal and state background checks including:
- SS Trace
- County search
- National Sex Offender Registry
- National Criminal
- FACIS Level 3
- OFAC
- OMIG (NY Medicaid exclusions)
- OIG and SAM
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days prior to start
- New York State Medicaid Exclusion List check updated annually
Health & Immunizations
- Facility-specific physical exam completed by a physician within 30 days of start (must use provided form)
- Fit mask test (N95) within 12 months of start
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year
- Immunizations or positive titers required for:
- Rubeola (Measles)
- Mumps
- Rubella
- Hepatitis B (antibody and antigen results required)
- Varicella
- Flu vaccine required annually (October 1 - April 30), declinations allowed for religious or medical reasons
- COVID vaccine series preferred
Drug Testing
- Standard 9-panel drug screen required within 30 days prior to start, updated annually
- Rapid drug tests not accepted
Competency Exams
- Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam with minimum score of 80%
References & Employment History
- Two clinical references required (supervisor level or above, charge RNs acceptable)
- Employment history covering 7 years with explanations for any gaps
- At least 1 year of experience in specialty or comparable/higher acuity required for application
Additional Notes
- Traveler must be pre-closed on this assignment
- All documentation must be current and compliant with facility and state requirements
This position is ideal for RNs with emergency department experience who are comfortable with higher patient ratios and meet the certification and compliance requirements. First-time travel nurses are welcome to apply.
