Job Opportunity: Respiratory / Neuro Diagnostics (Travel/Contract)

Location: New Haven, Connecticut
Facility Type: Short Term Acute Care Level I Trauma Center
Shift: 7:00 PM - 7:30 AM, 3 shifts of 12 hours each
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Position Details

  • Role: Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT)
  • Schedule: Must float between two campuses located one block apart (shuttle available)
  • Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
  • Block Scheduling: Accommodated
  • On-call: Not required
  • First-timers: Accepted

Experience & Certifications

  • Required Specialty Experience: Minimum 2 years
  • Required Certifications:
    • Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT)
    • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
    • Basic Life Support (BLS)
  • Preferred Experience:
    • Trauma experience
    • Adult Critical Care ventilator experience
    • Experience with Hamilton C6 ventilator preferred
    • Extra Corporeal, NICU, Pediatrics experience preferred

Compliance & Requirements

  • Background Checks:
    • 7-year criminal background check (updated annually)
    • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start
    • Education verification including foreign equivalency if applicable
  • Health Documents:
    • Physical exam within 12 months
    • Fit test within 12 months, updated annually (clean shaven required)
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray documentation
    • Required immunizations and titers (Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B) or approved exemptions
    • 10-panel drug screen within 12 months
    • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption required during flu season
  • Competency Exams:
    • Medication/Pharmacology competency exam (85% passing score)
    • Color Blind Testing (required for all candidates starting 8/2/2024)
    • Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam for applicable units
  • Facility-Specific Training Modules:
    • Stroke Education (for RNs except Pediatric specialties and NICU)
    • CLABSI Prevention Training
    • Preventing Pressure Injury Training
    • Language Services Training
    • CAUTI Education Training
    • Patient Transportation with Oxygen Education
    • Suicide Risk and Environmental Assessment Training
    • Pyxis ES MedStation Modules
    • Baxter Pump Interoperability Training
    • Patient Bedside Rounding
    • Ventricular Assist Device Awareness
    • Blood Administration Module (annual update required)
    • New Employee Orientation
    • 21st Century Cures Act Module (required for RRT and other clinical roles)
    • ED Handbook (for ED/ER RNs)
    • eCart Training Module (for RNs)
    • Chaperone Policy Training
  • Employment History:
    • 7-year work history with no gaps greater than 90 days
    • Verification of last 7 years of employment required

Additional Notes

  • Prior travel experience is not explicitly required for this position.
  • National certifications must be from AHA or ARC.
  • Candidates must be prepared to complete multiple facility-specific training modules and attestations, many of which can be completed electronically.
  • The role requires flexibility to float between campuses and work every other weekend.

This position offers an opportunity to work in a high-acuity, Level I Trauma Center with a large staffed bed capacity and advanced charting systems. It is suitable for respiratory therapists with at least 2 years of experience, including trauma and adult critical care ventilator experience. First-time travelers are welcome to apply.
