Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position

Unit Details

• General medical/surgical unit
• Primarily cares for geriatric patients
• Patient diagnoses vary daily
• Floating within facility/scope of practice as needed
• Weekend schedule: Every other weekend
• No on-call required

Experience Requirements

• Minimum 2 years of nursing experience required
• First-time travelers not accepted (prior travel experience required)

Holiday Work Expectations

• If 1 major holiday falls during assignment, traveler must work it
• If 2 major holidays fall during assignment, traveler must work both
• If 3 major holidays fall during assignment, traveler must work 2 of them
• Major holidays include: Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving/Black Friday, Christmas Eve/Day, New Year’s Eve/Day

Orientation & Compliance

• Full compliance required to start on time
• If not compliant, start date pushed back 2 weeks due to bi-weekly orientation schedule
• Number of non-billable orientation hours depends on contract length (e.g., 8 hours for 8 weeks)
• RTO (Return to Office) maximum 7 days

Licensure & Certifications

• State nursing license verification required within 30 days prior to start (Georgia RN license)
• ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) required for this specialty
• BLS (Basic Life Support) required
• Other certifications (PALS, NRP, EFM) may be required depending on specialty area—confirm specifics
• Annual NURSYS verification required within 30 days prior to start

Health & Compliance Documents

• Physical exam within 1 year of start required
• Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months required
• TB questionnaire required annually
• Immunizations required:

  • Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella (2 MMR vaccines or positive titer)
  • Varicella (2 vaccines or positive titer)
  • Hepatitis B series or signed declination
• Seasonal flu vaccination or declination required (strongly encouraged during flu season)
• Negative 10-panel drug screen within 30 days of start (cannot start with results pending)

Competency Exams & Testing

• Medication/Pharmacology competency exam required
• Color blind testing required; alternative assessment available if needed
• Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam required for certain units (e.g., Telemetry, ICU)
• General competency exam required for nursing staff

Additional Requirements

• Background check required within 30 days of start, including education verification
• Education verification required; can be pending at start with proof it is in process (due within 30 days post start)
• Skills checklist within 12 months, updated annually
• Work history verification of most recent employer required; can be pending at start with proof it is in process (due within 30 days post start)
• Two clinical references required

This position is ideal for experienced travel nurses with at least 2 years of med/surg experience, who are comfortable working with a geriatric population and meeting comprehensive compliance and certification requirements. Prior travel experience is mandatory.
