Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (IR PACU)

Location: Lexington, Kentucky
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 14 weeks

Position Details

• Role: IR PACU Nurse with phase 1 recovery responsibilities
• Shift: Rotating start times at 6 AM, 7 AM, or 8 AM
• Weekly Hours: 3 shifts of 12 hours each (shift times vary based on unit needs)
• Late Stays: 3-4 late stays required every 6 weeks
• Patient Population: Must have experience caring for pediatric patients
• Experience Required:

  • Minimum 1 year ICU experience
  • IR PACU experience required
• Certifications Required:

  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
  • BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • NIH Stroke Certification
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) – must obtain prior to start if not currently held
• Local travelers within 75 miles are not accepted

Required Experience

• Specialty: Registered Nurse (IR PACU)
• Minimum Years of Specialty Experience: 1 year ICU experience (highest required)
• Prior Travel Experience: Not explicitly required

Certifications & Competencies

• Mandatory Certifications:

  • ACLS (AHA only, RQI accepted)
  • BLS (AHA only, RQI accepted)
  • PALS or ENPC (ENPC acceptable in lieu of PALS)
  • NIH Stroke Certification
  • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Procedure) – if applicable for L&D
  • CHEMO, TNCC, EFM, CPI, and others as applicable to specialty/unit
• Competency Exams:

  • Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam (passing score 80%)
  • Unit Specific Competency Exams (annual renewal required)
  • Core Parts I, II, III (annual renewal required)
  • Conscious Sedation Competency Exam (annual renewal)
  • RN Math Ability Competency Exam (annual renewal, 80% passing score)
• Pass/Fail Testing:

  • Advanced Dysrhythmia Exam (EKG) required for PACU and ICU units
  • Two attempts allowed; failure results in cancellation

Background & Health Requirements

• Background Checks:

  • County Criminal Background Search (last 7 years)
  • National Criminal and Sex Offender Search
  • FACIS III, EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG checks
  • Education Verification (official transcript or diploma)
• Health Documents:

  • Physical Exam within 1 year, signed by MD, NP, or PA
  • Fit Mask test within 1 year (N95 or equivalent)
  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccine within 10 years
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray (if history of positive TB) within 1 year
  • Immunizations: Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B (titers or vaccines)
  • Drug Testing within 1 year (comprehensive panel, lab-based)
  • Seasonal Flu Vaccination or approved exemption (updated annually)
  • COVID vaccination series or approved exemption (updated annually)
• References: Two professional references verified within 6 months of start (manager or supervisor preferred)
• Employment History: Verification of 7 years employment required; gaps over 30 days must be explained

Additional Notes

• Must be willing to obtain PALS certification prior to start if not currently held
• Skills Checklists and other unit-specific competencies must be current and renewed annually
• Facility-specific policies and agreements must be signed prior to start
• Candidates must renew all expiring documents prior to clearance for assignment
• No local travelers within 75 miles accepted for this position

This position is ideal for experienced Registered Nurses with IR PACU and ICU backgrounds who are comfortable with pediatric care and rotating shifts. Compliance with extensive certification, competency, background, and health requirements is mandatory.
