Job Opportunity: Surgical Services (Travel/Contract)

Location: Atlanta, Georgia
Contract Length: 14 weeks


Position Overview

  • Requires completion of a privileging process prior to start (approximately 120 days/3 months).
  • Schedule: Day shifts.
  • Weekend work: Only required during call.
  • Call: 1 day per week and 1 weekend every ~4 weeks (subject to change).
  • Floating: Within facility/scope of practice and to Main OR as needed.
  • Minimum Experience: 5 years preferred; candidates with 3 years may be considered. First-time travelers accepted.
  • Clinical screening required to determine fit before final approval.
  • Return to Office (RTO) policy: Maximum 7 days.
  • No holiday RTO accepted.
  • Full compliance with onboarding and credentialing required to start on time; delays may push start date by 2 weeks due to orientation scheduling.
  • Non-billable orientation hours vary based on contract length (e.g., 14 weeks = 14 hours).

Required Experience

  • Specialty: Surgical Services
  • Minimum 5 years experience preferred; 3 years considered but 5 years is the higher requirement and should be noted.
  • Prior travel experience: Not explicitly required; first-time travelers accepted.

Certifications & Licenses

  • Cardiac, Vascular, Endovascular, Thoracic experience & CSFA, NBSTSA or NCCSA required for certain roles (hard stop).
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support): Required for RNs/RRTs/CRTs in relevant specialties.
  • BLS (Basic Life Support): Required except for Microbiology Techs and Med Techs.
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support): Required for RNs in PACU/Pre-op/Endo/CSU (if pediatric patients accepted), ER.
  • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program): Required if applicable.
  • State License: Must be valid and verified within 30 days prior to start; Georgia state license required for CRTs & RRTs.
  • National Certification: Allied annual license verification required if applicable.
  • NURSYS Verification: Annual verification for RN, LPN/LVN, AP within 30 days prior to start.

Competencies & Exams

  • Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam (required for RNs and LVNs by agency).
  • Color Blind Testing (required for all candidates).
  • Competency Exam (required for Nursing and Allied by agency).
  • Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam (required for Tele, MS/Tele, IMCU, ER, Card tele/step-down, ICU, PCU). Candidates allowed 3 attempts; failure on third attempt results in cancellation.

Health & Compliance Requirements

  • Background Check: Must be completed within 30 days of start; includes criminal, sex offender, education verification, and more. Cannot start with background pending.
  • Physical Exam: Required by agency within 1 year of start.
  • Drug Testing: Negative 10-panel drug screen within 30 days of start; cannot start with results pending. Instant drug screen acceptable under certain conditions.
  • Immunizations & Titers:
    • Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella: 2 MMR vaccines or positive titer; boosters allowed to pend post-start if eligible.
    • Varicella: 2 vaccines or positive titer; boosters allowed to pend post-start if eligible.
    • Hepatitis B: Series, surface antibody titer, or signed declination required. For privileging specialties, titer or declination form required (series alone not acceptable).
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap: Highly recommended; declination form allowed for privileging specialties if no current record.
    • Flu Vaccine: Required or declination during flu season (Nov 1 - Mar 31).
  • TB Testing: PPD, QGold, or TSpot within 12 months of start. For candidates with past positive TB, proof of positive test, negative chest x-ray within 6 months, and TB questionnaire required. Two negative TB tests required for privileging specialties.
  • TB Questionnaire: Required annually for all candidates.

Facility & Orientation Requirements

  • Review and sign Code of Conduct and Dress/Professional Appearance Policy prior to start.
  • Privileging specialties (e.g., CVOR Certified Surgical First Assistant, RNFA) have additional compliance checklists and vaccine declination forms.
  • Respirator Fit Test required during on-site orientation for privileging specialties.
  • Skills checklist and work history verification required; can be pending at start with proof of processing.
  • References: 2 clinical references required by agency (not client).

Additional Notes

  • Locals accepted at the same rate.
  • Orientation hours are non-billable and proportional to contract length.
  • Full compliance with all credentialing, health, and competency requirements is mandatory to avoid start delays.
