Description

Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position

Location: West Islip, New York
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Details

  • Start Date: January 5 only
  • Shift Schedule: 4x12-hour shifts and 3x12-hour shifts per week
  • Time Off: Facility approves a maximum of 5 days off during the contract
  • Facility Type: 437-bed teaching hospital
  • Patient Ratios: Up to 1:8; candidates must be comfortable with this ratio
  • Uniform: Scrubs in all white, all navy, or a combination; croc-type shoes with holes are not allowed

Experience Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years of experience as a Registered Nurse with a permanent license
  • First-time travelers accepted
  • Local candidates accepted

Certifications Required

  • BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA only
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA only
  • Other certifications may be required depending on unit (refer to specific unit requirements)

Licensure

  • Must have a valid state license within 30 days of start
  • License issues will result in automatic cancellation

Prior Travel Experience

  • Not required; first-time travelers accepted

Compliance and Documentation Requirements

  • Driver’s license or state ID with clear picture and address
  • 7-year background check including multiple federal and state databases, completed within 30 days of start and updated annually
  • Education verification: diploma or transcript acceptable
  • Physical exam using facility-specific form completed within 30 days prior to start, signed by a physician
  • Fit test for N95 mask (Halyard Fluidshield or 3M 1860) within 12 months of start
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year of start
  • Immunizations or titers required for:
    • Rubeola (Measles)
    • Mumps
    • Rubella
    • Hepatitis B (antibody and antigen results required)
    • Varicella
  • Standard 9-panel drug screen within 30 days prior to start, updated annually
  • Seasonal flu vaccination required (October 1 - April 30), with exemptions considered case-by-case
  • COVID vaccination series preferred

Competency Exams

  • Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam with minimum score of 80%

References and History

  • Two clinical references required (supervisor level or above)
  • Employment history covering 7 years with explanations for any gaps
  • At least 1 year of experience in specialty or comparable/higher acuity area
  • Current skills checklist applicable to the position within the last year

Additional Notes

  • Candidates must be comfortable with patient ratios up to 1:8
  • Uniform and footwear policies are strictly enforced
  • Time off is limited to a maximum of 5 days during the contract period

This position is suitable for Registered Nurses with at least 2 years of experience who are comfortable working in a teaching hospital environment with higher patient ratios and can comply with detailed credentialing and health requirements. First-time travel nurses are welcome to apply.
