Job Summary: Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)
Location: Overland Park, Kansas

Job Details
- Unit: Progressive Care Unit (PCU)
- Patient Ratios: 1:5
- Experience Required: 2 years (higher end of 1 to 2 years stated)
- First-time Travelers: Accepted
- Weekend Requirement: 8 weekend shifts per 6-week schedule period (Friday/Saturday/Sunday combination)
- Float Pool Position: Yes
- No home unit assignment
- Float between approximately 5 Med/Surg Intermediate/PCU units and other metro campuses as needed
- Holiday Shifts & Charge RN Assignments: As needed
- On-call: Not required
- Block Schedule Accommodation: No
- Local Candidates: Not accepted (must live at least 75 miles from facility)
- Pending License: Not accepted
- Return to Office (RTO) Restrictions: No more than 7 days
- Guaranteed Hours: 3 shifts per 13 weeks (cancelled shifts must be full shift length)

- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale)

- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)

- Work Settings: Med/Surg Telemetry, Telemetry, Cardiac Telemetry, Neuro Stepdown
- Cardiac Monitoring & Emergency Response:
- Interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
- Telemetry monitoring on unit
- Cardiovascular Care: Pre/Post Cardiac Catheterization
- Other Clinical Skills:
- Sepsis management
- Wound care
- Alcohol use disorder (ETOH)
- Suicidal ideation (SI)
- Renal failure
- Atrial fibrillation (AFIB)
- Gastrointestinal bleeding (GIB)
- Stroke care
- COVID-19 care

- IV Therapy/Phlebotomy:
- Accessing ports

Special Requirements & Equipment
- Virtual Nurses
- 12-lead EKG
- AirVo (high flow oxygen device)
- Voalte (communication system)
- Omnicell (medication dispensing system)
Compliance & Background Requirements
- Government-issued ID required
- Criminal background check within 6 months (7-year search including statewide, nationwide, sex offender, and international if applicable)
- Quarterly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks
- Education verification of highest nursing degree required
- State-specific background checks as applicable
- Fingerprinting required for assignments in Illinois long-term care or rehab units
- Professional license primary source verification required (NURSYS for Missouri licenses)
- Drug testing within 1 year of start, must include full panel and be valid throughout assignment
- Physical exam within 1 year of start
- Fit mask (N95) testing required and must be renewed annually
- Immunizations and titers required or declination forms for:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap
- TB testing (2 negative PPDs or equivalent)
- Measles (Rubeola)
- Mumps
- Rubella
- Varicella
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption required during flu season
- Various facility-specific compliance documents including HIPAA, latex allergy questionnaire, confidentiality, hand hygiene, fingernail, dress code, and regulatory compliance education must be completed and signed prior to start
Competency Requirements
- Unit-specific competency exams (updated annually)
- Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam within 12 months of start (minimum 80% pass rate)
- Medication test/pharmacology competency exam as applicable
- Color blindness testing within 12 months of start
References & History
- Two professional references required (supervisors preferred)
- Employment application required
- Unit-specific skills checklist within 1 year of start
Additional Notes
- Must be willing to float within scope across multiple units and campuses
- No on-call or block scheduling flexibility
- Must meet all compliance and credentialing requirements prior to start
- This is a travel/contract position with a 13-week duration
This position is ideal for RNs with at least 2 years of experience in telemetry or progressive care settings who are comfortable floating across multiple units and working weekends regularly. Prior travel experience is not required.
