Job Opportunity: Respiratory / Neuro Diagnostics - Travel/Contract

Location: Boston, Massachusetts
Contract Length: 13 weeks (approximately 3 months)
Employment Type: Travel/Contract


Job Requirements

  • Credentials:

    • Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) required (CRT not accepted)
    • Pending Massachusetts license acceptable
    • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
  • Experience:

    • 2-3 years of experience in Respiratory / Neuro Diagnostics
    • At least 1 year experience in PICU or Pediatric CVICU assistance
    • Prior travel experience is NOT required
  • Schedule:

    • 36 hours per week, working three 12-hour shifts (3x12s)
    • No 4x12 shifts offered
    • Every other weekend required
    • 50/50 rotation between day and night shifts, with some flexibility to limit rotation
    • Straight night shifts may be considered for strong candidates

Certifications & Competencies Required

  • Certifications:

    • BLS (Basic Life Support) – AHA or American Red Cross only
    • RRT credential verification (e.g., NBRC) within 30 days prior to start
    • State license verification (Massachusetts) within 30 days prior to start
    • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) – required for certain pediatric cardiovascular units if assignment extends beyond 13 weeks
    • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) – required for specific pediatric intensive care and emergency units
    • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) – preferred for NICU, must have PALS or NRP
    • Other certifications as applicable based on unit assignment (e.g., Chemo, EFM)
  • Competency Exams:

    • Medication/Pharmacology competency exam for pediatric patients required for RNs and LPNs
    • General competency exam required (not required for APNs)

Health & Background Requirements

  • Health Documents:

    • Physical exam within 1 year of start, cleared to work with no restrictions
    • Immunizations and titers:
      • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (Tdap after age 11 acceptable)
      • Negative TB test or chest x-ray (annual requirement)
      • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) proof of 2 vaccinations or positive titers
      • Hepatitis B vaccination series or declination
      • Varicella vaccination or positive titer
      • Seasonal Flu vaccination or approved exemption (deadline November 14)
      • COVID-19 vaccination series or approved exemption; seasonal COVID vaccine preferred but not required
    • Drug screening: 9-panel drug screen within last 12 months (not required for APNs)
    • Respiratory Safety Clearance (RespSafety) required for all travelers, completed virtually prior to start
  • Background Checks:

    • 10-year criminal background check within 6 months prior to start, including aliases and multiple federal/state databases
    • Massachusetts Statewide iCORI clearance within 6 months prior to start
    • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required
    • Additional background checks and fingerprinting required for behavioral health positions (if applicable)
    • Background checks must be started within 24 hours of assignment booking and updated annually for direct candidates

Additional Requirements

  • References:

    • Two professional references from two separate employers within the last three places of employment
  • Employment Application:

    • Must include 10 years of work history
    • Gaps over 30 days require explanation
  • Skills Checklist:

    • Unit-specific skills checklist within one year prior to start
  • Documentation:

    • Proof of name change if applicable
    • Various facility-specific forms and attestations related to health and background compliance

Notes

  • Local candidates (within 50 miles) have a different rate structure.
  • Rotation between day and night shifts is dependent on department needs but can be limited upon request.
  • Strong candidates may be considered for straight night shifts.

This position is ideal for experienced RRTs with pediatric critical care experience seeking a travel contract in a pediatric hospital setting. Prior travel experience is not required.
