Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Opportunity

Location: Rochester, New York

Job Details

  • Unit: Acute Rehab Hospital
  • Patient Diagnoses: Stroke, Brain injury, Spinal cord injuries
  • Special Equipment: Hoyer Lift, Sit to stand lift
  • Skills Required: Acute Rehab, CVA (Cerebrovascular Accident)
  • Float Required: Yes, Medical-Surgical (MS)
  • Weekend Coverage: Every Other Weekend (EOW)
  • Nurse-to-Patient Ratios:
    • Days: 1:5
    • Nights: 1:12
  • Years of Experience Required: 1 year
  • Accepts 1st Time Travelers: Yes
  • Locals Accepted: No (local radius rule: 75 miles)
  • Pending License Accepted: No
  • Return to Office (RTO) Restrictions: No more than 1 week RTO allowed in contract
  • Block Schedule Accommodation: Will try but not guaranteed

Certifications Required

  • BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA Provider/Instructor/RQI acceptable
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA Provider/Instructor/RQI acceptable, as required by unit
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) - as required by unit
  • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Procedure) - as required by unit
  • TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) - as required by unit
  • EFM (Electronic Fetal Monitoring) - as required by unit
  • NIH Stroke Certification - required for all RNs except birthing units & OR; updated annually
  • Orientation Safety Manual Acknowledgement
  • State License Verification (Primary Source Verification within 30 days of start)
  • NURSYS Verification (for RN, LPN/LVN, AP within 30 days of start)
  • Tech Cert Verification (if applicable within 30 days of start)

Competencies

  • Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam (as required by profession)
  • Color Blind Testing (required once, not annually)
  • Competency Exam (as required by profession/specialty)

Health Requirements (Must be completed within 5 days of contract signing)

  • Physical Exam (within 1 year, updated annually)
  • Fit Mask Test (within 1 year, updated annually)
  • Negative TB Test or Chest X-Ray (within 1 year)
  • TB Questionnaire (in lieu of annual TB test renewal)
  • Immunizations:
    • Rubeola (Measles) - positive titer or 2 vaccines required
    • Mumps - positive titer or 2 vaccines required
    • Rubella - positive titer or 1 MMR/Rubella vaccine required
    • Hepatitis B - positive titer, completed series, or declination required
    • Varicella - positive titer, 2 vaccines, or documented history required
  • Drug Testing (within 30 days of start)
  • Flu Seasonal Vaccination or signed declination (required during flu season)
  • Eye Exam (Snellen, within 1 year)
  • COVID Vaccination copy preferred but not required

Background and Verification Requirements

  • Government Issued Photo ID (Driver’s License/State ID)
  • 7 Year Criminal Background Check (including felony checks) within 3 months of start
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 3 months of start, run monthly
  • Foreign Equivalency Education Evaluation (if applicable)
  • Transcript/Diploma (if no education verification on file)
  • Education Verification (from in-house or 3rd party)
  • References: 2 references within 3 years (required for Aya candidates)
  • Employment Application
  • Skills Checklist (required annually)
  • Work History Verification (at least 2 past employments verified)

State Specific Requirements (New York)

  • NYS Nurse Aide Registry (required within 3 months for certain care settings)
  • NYS Criminal Background Check Fingerprint Results (for specific units)
  • Disciplinary Action Search Results (for specific units)
  • Sex Offender Registry Search (required within 30 days of start)
  • NYS Medicaid Exclusion List Check (required within 3 months, run monthly)

Additional Notes

  • EPIC experience preferred
  • Prior travel experience is not required
  • Must comply with all facility-specific documents and attestations as required

This position is ideal for a Registered Nurse with at least 1 year of experience in acute rehab or related settings, comfortable with stroke and neuro patients, and holding the necessary certifications. First-time travelers are welcome.
