Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Opportunity

Location: Colchester, Vermont
Specialty: Registered Nurse (Hospice/Home Health)
Contract Length: 20 weeks


Job Description

  • Hospice RN role, primarily working Thursday through Sunday
  • Call coverage is rare but may be required occasionally
  • No time off available in March; limited or no time off in April
  • Requires excellent typing skills due to narrative-heavy EMR
  • Responsibilities include:
    • Complex symptom management and education in hospice/end-of-life care
    • Symptom assessment and management requiring high-level critical thinking
    • Initiating and participating in goals of care discussions with patients, families, and team
    • Medication management and administration via multiple routes (IV, subcutaneous, oral, sublingual, rectal, etc.)
  • Schedule: Monday to Sunday availability required; no block schedules allowed
  • Bi-weekly orientations on Mondays

Experience Requirements

  • Minimum of 3 years of prior community hospice experience required
  • Prior travel experience is not explicitly required

Certifications & Licenses

  • AHA Basic Life Support (BLS) required
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) may be required depending on unit/job
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) may be required depending on unit/job
  • State RN license verification required within 30 days of start
  • NURSYS verification required within 30 days of start and updated annually

Background & Compliance

  • Background check within 30 days of start covering all locations lived/worked/schooled in past 7 years
  • Education verification based on job requirements
  • Drug testing may be required depending on facility location
  • COVID-19 vaccination or declination required
  • Flu vaccination or exemption required during flu season (Oct 1 - Mar 31)
  • Other immunizations required or documentation of immunity:
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within 10 years)
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray (updated annually)
    • Measles, Mumps, Rubella (2 MMR vaccines or positive titer)
    • Hepatitis B series and titer or signed declination
    • Varicella (2 vaccines or positive titer)
  • N95 Fit Test required prior to assignment and updated annually

Additional Requirements

  • Reliable personal or rental vehicle strongly recommended (public transportation not accessible)
  • Vehicles should have all-season or snow tires from November through April
  • Complete and explain all employment gaps over 30 days
  • Must complete required facility-specific modules (EPIC, Cornerstone) prior to start
  • Must comply with facility dress code and telephone usage policies
  • Must complete Vermont Adult and Child Abuse Registry Consent Form (for Vermont placements)
  • Must provide a passport-style photo for badge two weeks prior to start
  • Must complete physical exam within 12 months of start date

Work History & References

  • 2 years of most recent clinical work history verification required
  • 2 professional references from assignments within the last 3 years required
  • Skills checklist within 12 months required
  • Employment application required

Notes

  • No block schedules allowed
  • Bi-weekly orientation on Mondays
  • COVID testing protocol may require arrival early on Day 1 for testing
  • Masking and social distancing policies must be followed on-site

This position is ideal for experienced hospice RNs with strong clinical skills in symptom management and end-of-life care, who are comfortable working a flexible schedule including weekends and can meet comprehensive credentialing and compliance requirements.
