Description

Job Opportunity: Labor & Delivery Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)

Location: Lancaster, South Carolina
Specialty: Registered Nurse - Labor & Delivery (LDRP experience preferred)
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Position Details

  • Shift Options:
    • 3x12 hour shifts or 4x12 hour shifts
    • Night shift: 6:45 PM - 7:15 AM
  • Patient Ratios: 1:1 to 1:2
  • Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend as needed
  • On-call: Not required
  • Floating: Required to float within scope to sister units/like units
  • Patient Population: Mostly high-risk patients

Experience & Licensure Requirements

  • Years of Experience Required: Minimum 2+ years in Labor & Delivery nursing
  • First-timers: Not accepted
  • Licensure:
    • South Carolina RN license or Multi-State/Compact RN license required
  • Certifications Required:
    • BLS (American Heart Association only)
    • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program, AHA/AAP only)
    • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support, AHA only; required for all RNs except Nursery)
  • Certifications Preferred:
    • STABLE certification
  • Prior Travel Experience: Not explicitly required

Scheduling & Work Conditions

  • Block Scheduling: Possible with manager approval, dependent on unit needs
  • Local Radius: 60 miles
  • Locals Accepted: Yes (at a reduced rate)
  • Guaranteed Hours: Facility may call off 1 shift per 2 weeks

  • Hurricane Season: June through November; travelers may be assigned to emergency response teams during this time

Required Documentation & Compliance

  • Work Eligibility: Completed and accurate I-9 form required
  • Identification: Copy of Driver’s License/State ID and Social Security Card required
  • Background Checks:
    • Annual background check covering all locations lived/worked in past 7 years
    • Includes SSN trace, statewide, national criminal, sex offender registry, FACIS 3, and international searches if applicable
    • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start and updated for renewals
  • Education Verification:
    • Diploma or transcripts preferred as placeholder if education verification is pending
    • Not required for this facility
  • Licensure Verification:
    • Primary source verification required for SC RN license or compact license
    • Temporary "walk-through" licensure process available for SC RN license (24-48 business hours) if no background hits
    • NURSYS verification required for all RNs
  • References: Proof of 2 clinical references required
  • Employment History: Last 3 clinical employers verified (not required for this facility)

Health & Safety Requirements

  • Physical Exam: Initial physical exam within 1 year attesting ability to meet physical demands
  • Immunizations & Titers:
    • Tdap within 10 years or declination form
    • Negative TB test (T-spot or Q-Gold) within 90 days of start or chest x-ray if positive history
    • Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines; boosters if low titer
    • Hepatitis B: Titer, vaccine series, or declination form
    • Varicella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines; boosters if low titer
  • Drug Testing: 10-panel drug screen within 90 days of start (no instant tests)
  • Flu Vaccine: Required during flu season (Aug 1 - Apr 30); medical/religious exemptions accepted but no declinations
  • COVID-19 Vaccination: Not required but highly preferred; vaccination records must be uploaded or declination form completed

Competency & Training

  • Competency Exams: Medication test/pharmacology and other competency exams as applicable
  • Orientation:
    • Completion of First Day Instructions (FDI) and OurDay modules required before start
    • Modules take approximately 2 hours and must be completed on a computer (not mobile)
  • Photo for Badge: Passport-style headshot required

Additional Notes

  • Floating to sister units is required within scope of practice
  • Travelers should be prepared for possible emergency response duties during hurricane season
  • Facility allows calling off 1 shift every 2 weeks
  • Block scheduling may be accommodated with approval

This position is ideal for experienced Labor & Delivery RNs with at least 2 years of L&D experience, required certifications, and a valid SC or compact RN license, seeking a travel contract in South Carolina.
