Job Opportunity: IMU Nurse (Step-Down Unit)

Location: Bridgeport, West Virginia
Unit: Intermediate Medical Unit (IMU)
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Unit Details

• Unit Type: Step-down (IMU)
• Number of Beds: 18
• Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 1:3
• Patient Types / Common Diagnoses:

  • Post MI with sheath pull
  • ADHS
  • Postoperative vascular patients
  • GI bleed
  • DKA (Diabetic Ketoacidosis)

Required Certifications

• ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
• BLS (Basic Life Support)
• NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale)

Experience & Skills

• Experience with typical step-down type patients required
• RNs are required to titrate drips
• Common titratable drips include:

  • Nitroglycerine (up to 150 mcg/kg/min)
  • Neo (up to 100 mcg/min)
  • Cardene (up to 10 mg/hr)

Staffing & Support

• Charge nurse and house supervisor available; charge nurse typically does not take patient assignments
• One Patient Care Technician (PCT) per shift
• Respiratory therapy equipment available: BiPAP and CPAP
• Telemetry monitoring on all patients; RNs read EKG strips

Scheduling & Work Hours

• Shift: 12-hour night shifts
• Weekend requirement: Every other weekend
• Holiday requirement: Approximately every other holiday
• No call or standby requirements
• Floating: As needed (PRN)
• Scheduling system currently manual (paper spreadsheet)
• Dress code: Royal scrubs
