Registered Nurse - Cardiovascular Unit (Telemetry)

Location: Kalamazoo, Michigan
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Unit & Patient Population

• Unit: Cardiovascular Unit - Telemetry (3N)
• 54-bed cardiac telemetry unit
• Patient population includes heart failure, heart attack (STEMI and NSTEMI), stroke (requiring cardiac monitoring), cardiac arrhythmias, chest pain, and occasional overflow medical patients
• Patients are monitored remotely and on the unit, including cardiac drips

Schedule & Workload

• Shift: 3x12 hour day shifts (07:00 - 19:30)
• Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
• Holiday Requirement: Must work 2 out of 3 holidays
• Call: None
• Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours/week
• Nurse-to-patient ratio may increase to 1:7 temporarily due to workload
• Block scheduling cannot be guaranteed but managers will try to accommodate

Experience & Requirements

• Specialty: Registered Nurse (Cardiac Telemetry)
• Required Years of Experience: 1 year
• First-time travelers accepted
• Prior travel experience: Not required

Certifications Required

• ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA only
• BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA only
• NIHSS (NIH Stroke Scale Certification) - Required for all RNs, must be completed through BlueCloud

Housing & Location

• Travelers must live at least 50 miles away from the facility (locals not accepted)

Documentation & Compliance Requirements

• Background check covering last 7 years and all states lived/worked in, required within 90 days of start and annually
• Education verification or copy of diploma/transcripts required
• Physical exam required
• Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year (2-step PPD or Qgold accepted; T-Spot not accepted)
• TB questionnaire required prior to start and annually
• Immunizations or titers required for:

  • Rubeola (Measles)
  • Mumps
  • Rubella
  • Hepatitis B (titer, series, or declination)
  • Varicella
• Negative 12-panel drug screen within 30 days of start (includes amphetamines, cannabinoids, MDMA, methamphetamines, buprenorphine, oxycodone, fentanyl, cocaine, methadone, tramadol, benzodiazepines, morphine/opiate)
• Flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required prior to start and documentation must be on file by December 15
• COVID vaccine exemption allowed with medical or religious documentation

• Charting system: Cerner Powerchart
• Scrub color: Caribbean Blue
• Facility requires completion of multiple pre-start modules (approx. 8-10 hours) prior to assignment start; paid for module completion
• Confidentiality and non-disclosure agreement required prior to start

This position offers an opportunity to work in a specialized cardiac telemetry unit with a supportive team and a defined schedule, ideal for RNs with at least 1 year of experience in cardiac telemetry nursing.
