Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)

Location: West Islip, New York
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Description

• Position at a 437-bed teaching hospital with a Level II Trauma Center.
• Schedule preference: 4x12-hour shifts preferred, 3x12-hour shifts considered.
• Only start dates considered: 12/29 or 1/5.
• Up to 5 days of time off allowed during the contract.
• Uniform: scrubs in all white, all navy, or a combination of both colors.

Requirements

• Specialty: Registered Nurse with recent Emergency Room (ER) experience.
• Minimum 2 years of experience in nursing with a permanent license.
• Level 1 or Level 2 trauma experience required.
• Must hold a New York State nursing license at time of start.
• Certifications required:

  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
  • BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
• Prior travel experience: Not explicitly required.

Documentation & Compliance

• Driver’s license or state ID with clear picture and address required.
• Background checks: 7-year history including SS Trace, County search, National Sex Offender, National Criminal, FACIS Level 3, OFAC, OMIG (NY Medicaid exclusions), OIG, SAM. Must be completed within 30 days of start and updated annually. Instant state/county checks not accepted.
• EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days prior to start.
• Education verification: diploma or transcript acceptable.
• State license verification required within 30 days of start; license issues result in automatic cancellation.
• Physical exam: must use facility-specific form, completed by a physician within 30 days prior to start, including specific required sections and signatures. Cannot be done onsite. Must be updated annually.
• Fit mask test: required within 12 months of start, using specific N95 masks, updated annually.
• Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year of start.
• Immunizations/vaccinations required or proof of immunity:

  • Rubeola (Measles)
  • Mumps
  • Rubella
  • Hepatitis B (antibody and antigen results required)
  • Varicella
• Drug testing: Standard 9-panel drug screen required within 30 days prior to start, updated annually. Rapid tests not accepted.
• Flu vaccine required during flu season (Oct 1 - Apr 30), with exemptions considered case-by-case.
• COVID vaccination preferred (initial series).

Competencies & Additional Requirements

• Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam: minimum 80%.
• Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam: minimum 80% (may be required depending on unit).
• 2 clinical references required, must be supervisor level or above (Charge RNs acceptable).
• Employment history: 7 years with gaps explained, including current contact info. Must have at least 1 year experience in specialty or comparable/higher acuity.
• Skills checklist current within the last year and applicable to position.

Summary

This travel Registered Nurse position in West Islip, NY requires a minimum of 2 years nursing experience with trauma and ER background, New York State licensure, and current ACLS, BLS, and PALS certifications.
