Job Description
- First Time Travelers Accepted (locals not accepted)
- Cerner experience required
- Charge pay available ($3.00 bump per hour)
- Call-in shift policy:
- If 0.9 FTE, call-in shifts must be made up during the pay period or added at the end of the contract
- If 1.2 FTE, call-in shifts added at the end of the contract
- Floating may be required to different levels of care including Med-Surg, PCU, ICU (resources provided)
- Strong urology skillset required, including CBI and hand irrigations
- Candidates must have majority 3s & 4s in Urology section to pass
- Patient diagnoses include urology, plastic surgery, orthopedic oncology, surgical oncology hospitalist
- Effective 11/30/24, Indiana RNs are generally not allowed to work at this facility except:
- Periop/OR RNs, Allied, and Ambulatory RNs (including ENDO, IR RN, PACU, Cath Lab RN, SDS) are exempt
Experience Requirements
- Minimum 2 years of experience in specialty (Registered Nurse)
- Strong urology skillset and IV start experience required
- Prior travel experience is NOT required (first time travelers accepted)
Certifications Required
- BCLS (Basic Cardiac Life Support) - Required
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA only, RQI acceptable
- BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA only, RQI acceptable, required for all candidates
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) - AHA only, RQI acceptable
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) - AHA only
- Chemotherapy certification (as applicable)
- TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) (as applicable)
- EFM (Electronic Fetal Monitoring) (per unit requirements)
- NIH Stroke Certification (as applicable)
- State RN License verification (Indiana license required)
Skills and Competencies
- Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam required (not required for Techs or RRTs)
- Color Blind Testing (Ishihara exam or equivalent) with minimum 100% score
- Unit competency exam required
Floating and Unit Details
- May float to Med-Surg, PCU, ICU units
- Urology unit requires strong skills in continuous bladder irrigation (CBI) and hand irrigations
Health and Compliance Requirements
- Physical exam within 12 months of start date
- Fit mask test within 12 months (specific approved respirators required)
- Immunizations and titers required:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (preferred but not required)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year
- Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines required; no declinations accepted
- Hepatitis B series, titer, or signed declination required
- Varicella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines required; no declinations accepted
- Negative 10-panel drug screen within 12 months
- Seasonal flu vaccination/documentation required (no declinations accepted)
- TB Questionnaire updated annually
Background and Documentation
- Valid Driver’s License or Passport (clear copy)
- Background checks including:
- 7 years residence/work history
- SSN Trace, County Criminal, Statewide, National Sex Offender, FACIS Level III
- EPLS/GSA/SAM within 30 days of start
- HHS/OIG within 30 days of start
- Education verification and transcript/diploma required
- Employment application with full work history and explanation of gaps
- Minimum 2 references from recent employment with supervisory titles
- Skills checklist within 12 months, updated annually
- Facility-specific compliance and orientation documents required prior to start
Additional Notes
- IU Health requires completion of mandatory orientation modules for some roles (e.g., RRTs) prior to start
- Call-in shifts must be managed according to FTE status
- Local Indiana RNs generally not accepted after 11/30/24 except for specified exemptions
This position is ideal for Registered Nurses with at least 2 years of experience, strong urology skills, and flexibility to float across units in a hospital setting. First-time travel nurses are welcome to apply.
