Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)

Location: New Haven, Connecticut
Specialty: Registered Nurse - Cardiac ICU (CTICU)
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Details

  • Schedule: 3x12 hour shifts only
  • Start Date: ASAP
  • Unit: Cardiac ICU (CTICU)
  • Patient Ratios: Average 1:2 (days and nights)
  • Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
  • On-call: Not required
  • Floating: May float within scope to meet facility needs
  • Block Schedule: Not accommodated
  • Pending License: Accepted
  • Return to Origin (RTO) Restrictions: RTO greater than 7 days requires approval
  • Guaranteed Hours: Yes

Experience Requirements

  • Minimum Specialty Experience: 3 years of Cardiac ICU experience (highest requirement)
  • Additional Experience: Must have 1 year of Level 1 Trauma Center experience
  • First-timers: Accepted if they have Cardio Thoracic ICU and/or critical care experience
  • Prior Travel Experience: Not explicitly required

Certifications Required

  • NIH Stroke Certification
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
  • BLS (Basic Life Support)

Special Skills

  • Proficiency with Swan-Ganz monitoring
  • Experience working in a high acuity cardiac ICU environment

Background Checks

  • Foreign Equivalency Education Evaluation (for internationally educated RNs)
  • Education Verification (highest level of education)

Competency Exams

  • Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam (must score 85%)
  • Color Blind Testing (required for all candidates starting 8/2/2024, must score 80%)
  • Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam (required for all ICU units)

Health Documents

  • Physical Exam (within 12 months)
  • Fit Mask Test (within 12 months, updated annually)
  • Negative TB or Chest X-Ray (acceptable documentation within specified timeframes)
  • TB Questionnaire (updated annually)
  • Immunizations:
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (highly preferred for certain specialties)
    • Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella (positive titer or vaccines required)
    • Hepatitis B (positive titer, vaccine series, or declination)
    • Varicella (positive titer, vaccines, or documented history)
  • Drug Testing: 10 Panel Drug Screen (within 12 months)
  • Flu Seasonal Vaccination or Medical/Religious Exemption (required during flu season)
  • COVID Vaccination: Preferred but not required

  • Stroke Education Module and Attestation (required for RNs except pediatric specialties and NICU)
  • CLABSI Prevention Training
  • Preventing Pressure Injury Training

  • Patient Transportation with Oxygen Education
  • Suicide Risk and Environmental Assessment Training
  • Pyxis ES MedStation Modules
  • Baxter Pump Interoperability Training
  • Patient Bedside Rounding Module
  • Ventricular Assist Device Awareness
  • AME Blood Administration Module (annual update required)
  • New Employee Orientation Module
  • 21st Century Cures Act Module (required for RNs except Home Health)
  • ED Handbook (for ED/ER RNs only)
  • eCart Training Module (required for most RNs)
  • Chaperone Policy Training (required for RNs and Allied Health)
  • EPIC Testing (optional but highly encouraged for those with EPIC experience)
  • Vaccination Booster Medical Exemption (if applicable)

Employment History & Verification

  • Must provide 7 years of work history with no gaps greater than 90 days
  • Work history verification required for all start dates on/after 8/2/2024
  • Skills Checklist required within 12 months of start
  • Attestation of Prior Radiation Exposure (if applicable to certain tech roles)

This position is ideal for experienced cardiac ICU nurses with trauma center experience who are comfortable in a high acuity environment and meet the certification and compliance requirements listed above. First-time travelers with the appropriate ICU experience are also welcome.
