Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - Neuro ICU

Location: Albuquerque, New Mexico
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Unit & Specialty Details

  • Specialty: Neuro ICU (Neuro Intensive Care Unit)
  • Patient Diagnoses: Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI), Subarachnoid Hemorrhage (SAH), Subdural Hematoma (SDH), Tumor Resections, Status Epilepticus, and other neurologic disorders
  • Ratios: 1:2 typical; may occasionally float to med-surg with 6:1 ratios
  • Shift Length: 36 or 48 hours
  • Weekend Requirement: Varies based on unit needs
  • On-call: Not required
  • Floating: Yes, within scope to other ICUs, PCU floors, ED, PACU for admitted patients
  • Block Scheduling: Open to accommodating but not guaranteed
  • Locals: No locals accepted within 75 miles
  • Pending License: Accepted
  • Return to Office (RTO) Restrictions: Greater than 7 days off requires approval
  • Guaranteed Hours: Facility may call off up to 3 times during the 13-week assignment

Experience & Certification Requirements

  • Years of Experience Required: Minimum 1.5 years in specialty
  • First-time Travelers: Accepted
  • Prior Travel Experience: Not explicitly required
  • Required Certifications:
    • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
    • BLS (Basic Life Support)
    • NIH Stroke Certification
  • Additional Skills/Certifications:
    • ICP monitoring
    • Neuro Post-op care
    • EVD (External Ventricular Drain) insertions and management
    • A-line insertions
    • Intubation
    • Central line insertion
    • CRRT (Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy)
    • Post-TPA and Post-Thrombectomy care
    • Interpretation and management of dysrhythmias

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

Licensure & Background

  • Valid non-local driver’s license required (identification cards not accepted)
  • Pending license accepted
  • 7-year criminal background check within 30 days of start, updated annually
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within one year of start
  • Fingerprinting required onsite during orientation (unless completed within past 12 months)
  • Education verification required (diploma or transcript acceptable if 3rd party verification unavailable)
  • NURSYS license verification required for RN

Health & Immunizations

  • Physical exam within 1 year prior to start
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year
  • Fit mask test required within 1 year (specific N95 masks accepted)
  • Drug screen negative within 30 days of start (instant drug screens not accepted)
  • Flu vaccine required year-round with exemptions accepted
  • COVID vaccination no longer required but reporting still in place
  • Immunizations required:
    • Rubeola (Measles) - 2 vaccines or positive titer
    • Mumps - 2 vaccines or positive titer
    • Rubella - 2 vaccines or positive titer
    • Varicella - 2 vaccines or positive titer (history of disease not accepted)
    • Hepatitis B - series, titer, or declination

Testing & Competencies

  • Relias Basic Dysrhythmia Exam required (must score 80% overall and 100% on lethal arrhythmia section)
  • Medication/Pharmacology competency exam required (minimum 80% to pass)
  • Pass/fail testing for EKG/Medication required for ICU and related units
  • Management of Assaultive Behavior (MAB) certification may be required depending on unit
  • Orientation Safety Manual acknowledgement required
  • Cerner training attestation required for RNs starting with 8/4/25 orientation group (test-out option available)

Other

  • Two professional references within three years of hire
  • Work history verification for minimum 3 years required
  • Work Experience Checklist and Confidentiality Statement not required due to crisis credentialing

Special Notes

  • Travelers may be asked to float to Cardiothoracic ICU (CTICU) with current bill rate honored if switched
  • No RQI certifications accepted for ACLS/BLS/PALS/NRP
  • Facility is not near public transportation; candidates must have reliable transportation
  • OT applies after 48 hours on contracts signed on or after 10/30/2025
