Job Opportunity: Radiology / Cardiology Travel/Contract Position

Location: Wilmington, North Carolina
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Position Overview

Seeking an experienced Radiology / Cardiology professional for a travel/contract role. The position involves interventional radiology and special procedures in an acute care setting with a mix of inpatient, emergency, and outpatient populations.


Required Experience & Skills

  • Minimum Years of Experience: 5 years

  • Prior Travel Experience: Required

  • Key Skills:

    • Interventional Radiology and Special Procedures
    • Equipment maintenance and supply stocking
    • Procedures including angioplasty, chest tube placement, embolization, gastrostomy tube placement, IVC filter placement, liver biopsy, mesenteric angiogram, stent placement, thoracentesis, catheter/drain exchange, cystoscopy, biliary drainage, nephrostomy, percutaneous transhepatic cholangiogram, renal artery stent placement, ureteral stent placement, central venous access/port placement, PICC lines care and maintenance
    • Fluoroscopy, accurate patient monitoring, equipment setup, sterile field maintenance
    • Isolation precautions and rapid response/code team participation
  • Certifications Required:

    • ARRT (Radiologic Technologist)
    • BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • Preferred Skills/Certifications:

    • ARRT VI
    • PACS
    • TIPS (Transjugular Intrahepatic Portosystemic Shunt)
    • Computed Tomography
    • Ultrasound
    • EKG lead placement
    • Recognition of life-threatening arrhythmias
    • Vascular closure systems (Perclose, StarClose)

Work Schedule & Call Requirements

  • Shift: Monday to Friday, 7:00 AM – 5:00 PM
  • Call: Weekend call (Saturday/Sunday) on a rotating basis (1:5 rotation with 4 full-time RTs and 1 travel RT)
  • Weekend Requirement: 3-4 weekends per contract
  • Return to Office (RTO): 7 days max

Patient Population & Procedures

  • Acute inpatient, emergency department emergent cases, and outpatient routine procedures
  • Common diagnoses: bleeds, cancer, end-of-life care, fibroids, vascular disease, urological comorbidities, failure to thrive
  • Special procedures include interventional body procedures such as port, pleurx, gastrostomy tube, nephrostomy tube, perm cath placements, embolizations for bleeding and fibroids, liver cancer treatment/SIRT, chemoembolization, and trauma Level I procedures (splenic, liver, pelvic bleeds)

Equipment & Systems

  • Siemens single plane and GE Biplane fluoroscopy units
  • Ultrasound and patient monitoring equipment
  • Unit systems: Pyxis (medication), EPIC (documentation), SBAR (communication)

Orientation & Uniform

  • Orientation based on experience
  • Scrubs provided

Compliance & Requirements

  • Background checks including criminal, education verification, and state-specific registry checks required within 90 days of start
  • Physical exam within 1 year of start (or 30 days if past positive TB)
  • Fit mask testing (N95 or PAPR training) required within 1 year of start
  • Negative TB test or chest x-ray as applicable
  • Drug screening within 30 days of start
  • Immunizations and titers required: Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B (with facility-specific declination if needed)
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption required during flu season
  • Radiation badge required for interventional radiology roles
  • Completion of facility-specific orientation modules and competency exams as applicable
  • Medication safety and other mandatory training modules must be completed prior to start
  • Professional references and employment application required

Additional Notes

  • Candidates must complete a Non-Novant Health Worker Orientation if travel only
  • Candidates must complete Epic training or test-out if applicable (not available for this facility)
  • Weekend call rotation involves two 24-hour call shifts every five weeks
  • Documentation such as photo for badge, confidentiality agreement, and hospital policies acknowledgment required prior to start

This position is ideal for a highly skilled Radiology/Cardiology professional with interventional experience and prior travel contract experience, seeking a structured weekday schedule with weekend call responsibilities in a Level I trauma setting.
