Registered Nurse - Home Health (Travel/Contract)

Location: Burlington, North Carolina
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Description

  • Provide, coordinate, and direct home nursing care according to physician orders and agency policies.
  • Supervise and evaluate Home Health Aides and Licensed Practical Nurses/Licensed Vocational Nurses.
  • Conduct home visits with an average of 5-8 patients per day.
  • Types of cases include Start of Care, Wound Care, Follow-up Visits, etc.
  • Must be willing to travel up to 75 miles from the home clinic.
  • Schedule typically Monday to Friday, 8 AM to 5 PM; some positions may have a 4x10 shift (Friday-Monday).
  • No guaranteed hours; may be floated to nearby clinics if patient census is low.
  • Charting requires proficiency in HomeCare HomeBase (HCHB) and Oasis (used within the last 6 months or retraining required).
  • Dress code: Scrubs.

Requirements

  • Specialty: Registered Nurse - Home Health or Hospice.
  • Experience: Minimum 1 full year of recent Adult Home Health or Hospice experience (whichever is higher).
  • First-timers: Not accepted; recent specialty experience required.
  • Certifications: Current CPR and BLS required.
  • Licensure: Must have an active nursing license in hand; pending licenses not accepted.
  • Transportation: Reliable transportation and current driver's license required.
  • On-call: Varies by location; discuss during interview.
  • Weekend work: Varies by location and profession; discuss during interview.
  • Local candidates: Accepted within the same pay rate.

Productivity & Travel

  • Expected to travel approximately 30-40 miles per day, up to 50 miles daily.
  • Weekly productivity expectations: 25-30 units.

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

Candidates must complete and maintain the following prior to and during assignment:

Licensure & Background

  • Active nursing license for North Carolina.
  • Standard background checks including 7-year history, sex offender search, EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG.
  • State-specific background checks and fingerprinting as required by North Carolina and other states if applicable.
  • Drug screening (10-panel).
  • Education verification.
  • Work history verification (at least 2 most recent employers or last 7 years).
  • References (minimum two).

Health & Immunizations

  • Physical exam within 12 months prior to start, confirming good health and no communicable diseases.
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months, updated annually.
  • Proof of immunity or vaccination for Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella.
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or documented declination.
  • COVID-19 vaccination series or documented declination.

Certifications & Training

  • Current BLS certification (AHA, National CPR Foundation, or ARC accepted).
  • Proficiency or retraining in HomeCare HomeBase and Oasis EMR systems.
  • Completion of facility-specific compliance training, including:
    • Code of Conduct
    • HIPAA and Privacy Policy
    • Compliance Basics and Practice Quiz
    • Home Health Scenarios
    • Confidentiality and Privacy Acknowledgements
    • COVID-19 Policy and Attestation
    • Other state or facility-specific compliance documents as applicable.

Insurance

  • Personal or auto insurance required for home health placements; policy must be current and under candidate’s name or list candidate as a driver.

Additional Notes

  • Candidates must be willing to sign new supplier packets at the start of each assignment and annually if working more than one year consecutively.
  • Some state-specific forms and attestations may be required depending on placement location.
  • Candidates must be proficient in documentation and electronic charting systems relevant to home health care.

This position is ideal for experienced Registered Nurses with recent home health or hospice experience who are comfortable with travel and electronic documentation systems.
