Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position
Location: Bloomington, Indiana
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Requirements
- Specialty: Registered Nurse
- Years of Experience: Not explicitly stated; default to standard RN requirements (minimum 1 year travel experience required)
- Prior Travel Experience: At least 1 year of travel experience required (will not consider candidates with less)
- Shift: 3 shifts of 12 hours each (3x12s)
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
- Float Requirement: Yes, may float to nearby sister facilities as needed (rarely)
- Holiday Requirement: Must work 2 out of 3 major holidays
- Guaranteed Hours:
- 8 and 10 hour shifts: 40 hours in one workweek
- 3 shifts of 12 hours: 36 hours in one workweek
- 4 shifts of 12 hours: 48 hours in one workweek
Certifications Required
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA only, RQI acceptable
- BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA only, RQI acceptable
- NIHSS (NIH Stroke Certification)
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) - AHA only, RQI acceptable
- TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course)
- Additional certifications may be required depending on unit (e.g., NRP, CHEMO, EFM)
Licensure & Verification
- Valid Registered Nurse license for Indiana (online verification required within 30 days before start)
- Valid Driver’s License or Passport (clear copy required)
Background & Compliance Checks
- Background check within 90 days of start, including:
- 7 years of residence/work history
- SSN Trace
- County, Statewide, National Sex Offender checks
- FACIS Level III
- Education verification
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start
- Drug screening: Negative 10-panel drug screen within 12 months of start (no instant tests)
Health & Immunization Requirements
- Physical exam within 12 months of start
- Fit mask test within 12 months (specific approved respirators required)
- Tuberculosis test (PPD, QuantiFERON-TB Gold, or T-SPOT) within 1 year of start
- Immunizations/vaccinations required:
- Rubeola (Measles): Positive titer or 2 vaccines (no declinations accepted)
- Mumps: Positive titer or 2 vaccines (no declinations accepted)
- Rubella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines (no declinations accepted)
- Varicella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines (no declinations accepted)
- Hepatitis B: Series, titer, or signed declination required
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap: Preferred but not required
- Seasonal Flu vaccination/documentation required during flu season (no declinations accepted; medical/religious exemptions require approval)
Competency & Documentation
- Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam required
- Unit competency exam required
- Color Blind Testing (Ishihara exam or equivalent) with minimum 100% score for online test
- Skills checklist within 12 months of start, updated annually
- Minimum of 2 professional references from recent employment (within 2 years), with appropriate supervisory titles
- Employment application covering last 7 years with explanations for gaps over 30 days
Additional Notes
- Locals are not accepted for this position
- Effective 11/30/24, Indiana RNs are generally not allowed to work at these facilities except for Perioperative/OR, Allied, and Ambulatory RN travelers (including ENDO, IR RN, PACU, Cath Lab RN, SDS)
- Must complete facility-specific compliance and orientation documents prior to start
- On-site fit testing is limited and must be approved in advance if required
- PAPR use requires prior facility approval and documentation
This position is ideal for experienced travel RNs who meet the certification and compliance requirements and are willing to work specified shifts, weekends, and holidays with occasional floating duties.
