PCU RN for ER Holding Area

Location: Savannah, Georgia
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Summary

Seeking a PCU RN to provide care for patients boarded in the Emergency Room (ER) holding area.


Requirements

  • Active Georgia or Compact RN license
  • BLS and ACLS certifications (AHA)
  • Minimum of 2 years recent experience in a similar-sized Emergency Department that cares for STEMI and stroke patients
  • Must have successfully completed at least 1 previous travel assignment (prior travel experience required)
  • References should be from recent assignments
  • Must be available to work 2 of 3 major holidays: Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve/Day, or New Year's Eve/Day
  • ASAP start highly preferred

Work Environment & Details

  • Nurse to patient ratio: 1:4-5 (acuity adjusted)
  • ER beds/trauma bays: 50
  • Fast Track and separate triage area available; travelers may be required to perform triage
  • Separate ER holding area and 2 psych/seclusion rooms
  • 24/7 in-house security in the ER
  • Average patient volume: 120 patients per day
  • Common patient types: Cardiac, neurological, orthopedic, critical care
  • Common drips used: All drips
  • Respiratory Therapist (RT) available 24/7 (RT handles vents, CPAP, BiPAP, high flow, ABGs, breathing treatments)
  • RNs required to read and save their own telemetry strips (Spacelabs monitors)
  • X-ray and CT available in ER with dedicated techs for transport
  • No phlebotomy performed by RNs in ER
  • Paramedics and Patient Care Technicians (PCTs) assist nursing staff
  • Charge nurse does not take patient assignments
  • Scheduling: Self-scheduling available when open; block scheduling based on department needs
  • Weekend requirement: At least 6 weekend days/nights in a 6-week schedule (about every other weekend)
  • Holiday requirement: Based on department needs
  • No call, standby, or floating requirements
  • Dress code: Navy scrubs
  • Department-specific orientation during the first week of contract
  • Shift: 12-hour nights

Additional Notes

  • Must adhere to a 100-mile radius rule for travel
  • Contract duration may vary based on start date but will go through January 10th
