PCU RN for ER Holding - Savannah, Georgia
Job Overview
- Provide care for patients boarded in the ER holding area (PCU level care).
- Unit opens October 1; ASAP start highly preferred.
- Contract length: 13 weeks.
- Must work 2 of 3 holidays: Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve/Day, or New Year's Eve/Day.
- Weekend requirement: At least 6 weekend days/nights in a 6-week schedule (about every other weekend).
- Shift length: 12-hour day shifts.
- Self-scheduling available when schedule is open; block scheduling based on department needs.
- No call, standby, or floating requirements.
- Dress code: Navy scrubs.
- Department-specific orientation during the first week of the contract.
Required Qualifications
- Active Georgia or Compact RN license.
- BLS and ACLS certifications required.
- Minimum of 2 years recent experience in a similar size Emergency Department.
- Must have successfully completed at least 1 previous travel assignment (prior travel experience required).
- References should be from recent assignments.
Unit & Patient Information
- ER has 50 beds/trauma bays.
- Fast Track and separate triage area present; travelers may be required to perform triage.
- ER holds are intermixed within the ER.
- Two separate psych/seclusion rooms.
- 24/7 in-house security housed in the ER.
- Average patient volume: 120 patients per day.
- Common patient types: Cardiac, neurological, orthopedic, critical care.
- ED team includes physicians, PAs, and NPs.
- Charge nurse does not take patient assignments.
- Support staff includes paramedics and patient care technicians (PCTs).
- Respiratory therapists (RT) available 24/7; RT handles ventilators, CPAP, BiPAP, high flow, ABGs, breathing treatments, and EKGs.
- RNs are required to read their own cardiac monitor strips (Spacelabs monitors) and save them into the chart.
- X-ray and CT imaging available in the ER with dedicated techs for transport.
- No phlebotomy performed by RNs in the ER.

- 100-mile radius rule applies.
- Nurse-to-patient ratio typically 1:4-5, adjusted for acuity.
- Scheduling aims to balance staff needs and department requirements.
