Job Opportunity: MFM Sonographer
Location: Sioux Falls, South Dakota
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Summary
Seeking a highly trained MFM Sonographer with intricate OB skills to perform a variety of obstetrical and gynecological ultrasound exams in a high-volume, fast-paced environment. The position involves working closely with perinatologists and providing both high-risk and low-risk obstetrical ultrasounds, as well as gynecological exams.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform OB/GYN exams including:
- Transvaginal dating scans
- Nuchal translucency
- Anatomical surveys (low and high risk)
- Follow-up growth scans
- Biophysical profiles (BPPs)
- Umbilical artery and middle cerebral artery Dopplers
- Possible fetal echocardiograms
- Transvaginal gynecological evaluations
- Follicular exams
- Saline infusion sonograms
- Ultrasound-guided procedures (e.g., IUD insertions)
- Work side-by-side with perinatologists who read all obstetrical exams
- Participate in outreach services requiring travel with the team
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 4 years of OB/GYN sonography experience (high-risk obstetrical experience of 2 years desirable but not required)
- Experience with multiples and detecting birth defects
- Knowledge of detailed or targeted anatomical surveys, including fetal heart evaluation per AIUM detailed protocol
- RMDS certification in OB/GYN
- Current BLS certification
- NT certification by Fetal-Medicine Foundation or NTQR
- Voluson E10 equipment experience desired but not required
Schedule & Work Environment
- Typical schedule: Monday to Friday, 5 days per week, 8-hour shifts (7:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.)
- Alternate schedules may include four 10-hour days (6:45 a.m. – 5:15 p.m.)
- No weekends or on-call required
- Outreach services involve 10–12 hour days with travel by rental car and/or airplane
- No floating to other units or departments
- Work in 8 diagnostic ultrasound rooms equipped with state-of-the-art equipment and high-low exam tables
Orientation & Training
- 2-week orientation under direct supervision and mentorship of a preceptor (may extend if needed)
- Training includes protocols, workflows, EMR training in EPIC, and structured reporting in AS OB/GYN software

- Work environment is friendly, clean, and team-oriented
- Staff includes 15 registered sonographers passionate about women’s health
- Accredited by AIUM
- Must badge in and out at the facility

- Local placements within an 80-mile radius

- Outreach services require travel with the team; prior travel experience is implied but not explicitly required
