Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - Oncology
Location: Springfield, Illinois
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Position Details
- Specialty: Oncology
- Shift Options:
- 4x12 hour shifts (7:15 AM - 6:45 PM)
- 3x12 hour shifts (days) - can accommodate 3x12 if requested
- Average Daily Census: 24 patients (24 rooms/beds)
- Weekend Requirement: Work every other weekend
- Floating: Will float within scope as needed
- Block Schedule: Open to discussion with manager
- Locals Accepted: Yes, no radius restrictions
- License Requirement: Must have active Illinois nursing license or be in the application process
- Return to Office Restrictions: Ideally no more than 5 days off
- Guaranteed Hours: Client may call off up to 36 hours per 13-week assignment without pay; on-call shifts count as called-off shifts
Experience & Certifications
- Required Years of Experience: Minimum 1 year in Oncology nursing
- Prior Travel Experience: Not required
- First-Timers Accepted: Yes
- Preferred Certifications: Chemotherapy certification preferred
- Required Certifications:
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA (RQI acceptable)
- BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA (RQI acceptable)
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) - AHA (RQI acceptable), if applicable
- State License Verification: Primary source verification required
- NURSYS Verification: Required for RN, LPN/LVN, AP
Required Skills & Competencies
Chemotherapy Skills/Experience:
- Administration of chemotherapy
- Body fluid handling post-chemotherapy
- Continuous infusion of chemotherapy
- IV push administration of chemotherapy
- Management and disposal of cytotoxic spills
- Monitoring chemotherapy effects
- Oral administration of chemotherapy
- Recognizing and communicating abnormal lab values
IV Therapy/Infusion Skills/Experience:
- Accessing ports
- Administration of coagulation factors, antifungals, antivirals
- Blood and blood product administration
- Care and management of ports and central lines
- Central line blood draws
- PICC line care
- Starting IVs

Compliance & Documentation Requirements
- Valid/current US Driver’s License or State ID
- Background checks covering all locations lived/worked in past 7 years, updated annually
- EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG checks within 30 days prior to start
- Illinois-specific searches including Department of Corrections, Most Wanted, and State Police registries within 30 days of start
- Fingerprinting through Illinois Health Care Worker Registry (must be done in Illinois, 3 business days prior to start)
- Education verification (degree or transcript)
- Competency exam required for all clinical candidates
- Photo for badge (color, mid-shoulders up, plain background)
- Code of Conduct acknowledgment
- Flu vaccine or approved medical/religious exemption required annually
- Physical exam within 1 year of start, including labs within 7 days of contract signing
- Fit mask test required (specific mask types accepted)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year
- Immunizations or titers for Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella
- 9-panel drug screen within 30 days of start
- References: 2 professional references required for clinical candidates
- Skills checklist required for clinical candidates

- Candidates must be able to perform core functions without restrictions and be free of communicable diseases
- Facility accommodates latex allergies
- Non-clinical or remote candidates have reduced requirements for some health and background checks
