Description

Registered Nurse - Labor and Delivery Unit

Location: Macon, Georgia
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 12 weeks


Unit Details

  • Care for prenatal, antepartum, laboring, and postpartum patients.
  • Level 2 labor and delivery unit managing patients >12 weeks to post term.
  • Patient diagnoses include: normal pregnancy, preeclamptic/eclamptic gravid and postpartum patients, gestational diabetes, scheduled & stat C-sections, elective and medically indicated inductions of labor, preterm labor, VBAC.
  • Responsibilities include evaluation and treatment of obstetrical patients with any condition compromising mother or fetus well-being.
  • Care for laboring patients, including circulating scheduled and stat C-sections, amnioinfusions, administration and monitoring of magnesium sulfate, Pitocin titration, amnioswab, FSE placement, and D&C.

Schedule

  • Weekend: Every other weekend
  • Call: None
  • Floating: Within facility and to nearby hospital as needed

Experience Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years of nursing experience required.
  • First-time travelers accepted (prior travel experience NOT required).

Orientation & Compliance

  • Maximum 7-day orientation (RTO).
  • Full compliance with all requirements is mandatory to start on time; delays result in a 2-week pushback due to bi-weekly orientation scheduling.
  • Number of non-billable orientation hours depends on contract length (e.g., 8 hours for 8-week assignment).

Holiday Work Expectations

  • If 1 major holiday falls during assignment, traveler expected to work it.
  • If 2 major holidays fall, traveler expected to work both.
  • If 3 major holidays fall, traveler expected to work 2 of them.
  • Major holidays include: Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving/Black Friday, Christmas Eve/Day, New Year's Eve/Day.

Required Certifications & Competencies

  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support): Required for Labor & Delivery RNs.
  • BLS (Basic Life Support): Required.
  • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program): Required.
  • EFM (Electronic Fetal Monitoring): Online course required within a few months of hire; no re-certification needed.
  • State Nursing License: Must be valid in Georgia and verified within 30 days prior to start.
  • NURSYS Verification: Annual verification required within 30 days prior to start.
  • Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam: Required by Aya for RNs.
  • Color Blind Testing: Required for all candidates; alternative assessment available if needed.
  • Competency Exam: Required by Aya for nursing staff.

Health & Background Requirements

  • Background Check: Must be completed within 30 days of start, including county, national, sex offender, criminal, FACIS 3, and education verification.
  • Physical Exam: Required by Aya within 1 year of start.
  • Drug Testing: Negative 10-panel drug screen within 30 days of start; cannot start with results pending. Instant drug screen acceptable under certain conditions.
  • TB Testing: PPD, QGold, or TSpot within 12 months of start. If past positive, negative chest x-ray within 6 months required. TB Questionnaire required annually.
  • Immunizations:
    • Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella: 2 MMR vaccines or positive titer required. Boosters allowed to pend past start if not yet eligible.
    • Varicella: 2 vaccines or positive titer required; boosters allowed to pend if not eligible.
    • Hepatitis B: Series, surface antibody titer, or signed declination required.
    • Flu Vaccine: Required or declination during flu season (Nov 1 - Mar 31).

Additional Requirements

  • References: 2 clinical references required by Aya.
  • Skills Checklist: Must be updated within the last 12 months.
  • Work History Verification: Verification of most recent employer required; can be pending at start with proof it is in process.
  • Facility Policies: Candidates must review and sign Code of Conduct and Dress/Professional Appearance policies prior to start.

  • Locals accepted at the same rate.
  • Floating may include coverage at a nearby hospital within scope of practice.
  • Aya offer contingent on clinical pass within RTO guidelines and meeting facility requirements.
