Description

Job Opportunity: Surgical Services (OR CST) - Travel/Contract

Location: Florence, South Carolina
Contract Length: 9 weeks
Shift: 4x10 hour shifts, Days (7 AM - 5 PM)
Operating Rooms: 12
On-Call Requirement: Yes, 2 call shifts per week including weekend call every 5th weekend
Weekend Requirement: Yes (per call schedule)
Floating: Yes, between service lines (not to sister facilities)


Experience & Certification Requirements

  • Specialty: Surgical Services (Operating Room Certified Surgical Technologist)
  • Years of Experience Required: Minimum 1 year of well-rounded experience
  • Prior Travel Experience: Not required; first-time travelers accepted
  • National Certification Required: NBSTSA (NCCT NOT accepted)
  • BLS: Required (AHA or ARC only)
  • Radiation Badge: Required; must be provided by agency (facility does NOT provide)
  • Types of Cases Experience Required:
    • Neuro Surgery
    • Vascular Thoracic
    • Orthopedics/Spine including total joints
  • Preferred Cases Experience:
    • General Surgery Robotics
    • Urology Robotics
    • GYN Robotics

Work Environment & Facility Details

  • Facility Type: Community hospital
  • Total Staffed Beds: 276
  • Scrubs: Provided
  • Charting System: Epic
  • Local Radius Rule: 60 miles (no local travelers accepted)
  • Guaranteed Hours: Facility may call off 1 shift per 2 weeks; called off hours can be broken down to equal 1 shift

Important Notes

  • Hurricane Season: June through November; travelers may be assigned to emergency response teams during this time. Avoid confirming new or extension assignments during peak months (August-September) if this is a concern.
  • Floating: Traveler will float between service lines but not to sister facilities.

Required Documentation & Compliance

  • Work Eligibility: Completed and accurate I-9 form and E-Verify attestation required
  • Identification: Copy of Driver’s License/State ID and Social Security Card required
  • Background Checks:
    • Annual background check covering all locations lived/worked in past 7 years
    • Includes SSN Trace, Statewide, National Criminal, Sex Offender Registry, FACIS 3, and international searches
    • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start and updated for renewals
  • Education Verification: Not required for this facility; diploma/transcripts preferred as placeholder if needed
  • References: Proof of 2 clinical references or hospital evaluations
  • Performance Evaluation: Required within 12 months of start
  • Employment Application: Complete application or resume required
  • Work History Verification: Not required for this facility

Certifications Required (Must be current, no expiration within 30 days of start)

  • BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA or ARC only
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA or ARC only
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) - AHA or ARC only (as required)
  • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) - AHA/AAP only (as required)
  • TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) - As required
  • EFM (Electronic Fetal Monitoring) - AWHONN or NCC (as required)
  • IV Therapy Certification: Required for select LPNs (confirm with recruiter)
  • NIH Stroke Certification: As required
  • Tech Certification (for Allied Professionals): Must meet national standards (e.g., ARRT for Ultrasound Techs)
  • Radiation Badge: Required for OR staff; must be obtained prior to starting clinical work

Health & Immunization Requirements

  • Physical Exam: Initial and updated annually, attesting ability to meet physical demands
  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap: Required within 10 years or declination form
  • TB Testing:
    • Negative 2-step PPD or Quantiferon Gold within 90 days of contract start (T-spot not permitted)
    • If positive, proof of chest X-ray required
  • Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines; boosters required for low titers
  • Hepatitis B: Titer, vaccine series, or declination required
  • Varicella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines; boosters required for low titers
  • Drug Testing: 10-panel drug screen within 90 days of start (no instant tests)
  • Flu Vaccine: Required during flu season (Aug 1 - Apr 30); medical/religious exemptions accepted but no declinations
  • COVID-19 Vaccination: Not required but highly preferred; vaccination records must be uploaded or declination form completed
  • Respirator Clearance: Annual medical clearance required for patient-facing travelers

Facility Specific Requirements

  • Orientation: Completion of First Day Instructions (FDI) and OurDay modules prior to start (approx. 4 hours)
  • Photo for Badge: Passport-style photo required
  • Acknowledgments & Agreements: Must sign assignment acknowledgment, code of conduct, confidentiality agreements, HR policy manual, systems user agreement, and user access request prior to start
  • Job Description: Required for all candidates
  • Religious Exemption Form: Required if requesting COVID exemption for religious reasons

Additional Notes

  • Travelers must upload all required vaccination and certification documents into the facility’s system prior to start.
  • Radiation badges can take 5-7 days to process; candidates cannot start clinical work without them.
  • Facility does not accept local travelers within 60 miles.
  • Facility allows floating between service lines but not to sister facilities.

This position is ideal for Surgical Technologists with at least 1 year of diverse OR experience, NBSTSA certification, and comfort with a variety of surgical specialties including neuro, vascular thoracic, and orthopedics/spine cases. The role requires flexibility for call shifts and weekend coverage, and adherence to strict credentialing and health requirements.
