Job Opportunity: DMCC - LTAC Med Surg Nurse

Location: Peoria, Illinois

Position Details

• Specialty: DMCC - LTAC Med Surg
• Contract Length: 13 weeks
• Unit: MedSurg
• Number of Beds: 10
• Shift Length: 12-hour shifts (7:00 AM - 7:30 PM)
• Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend and to fill holes
• Holiday Requirement: Holiday rotation and to fill holes
• Call or Standby: Not currently required but subject to change

Patient Population & Care

• Common diagnoses: Respiratory failure, post-surgical, wound care, IV antibiotics, post-CVA, post-trauma, cardiac patients
• Experience/Skills Required:

  • PEG tube care/feedings
  • CVC/PICC/Midline usage and care
  • Tracheostomy patient care
• RNs are required to titrate drips (e.g., Heparin)
• Respiratory Therapy equipment includes vents, CPAP, BiPAP, High Flow; RNs troubleshoot but RT manages equipment
• Telemetry: Tele/monitor techs present; RNs do not read their own strips

Staffing & Ratios

• Nurse to Patient Ratio: 1:5
• Nurse Aids/Patient Care Techs: Yes, ratio 1:10
• Charge Nurse: No charge nurse on each shift; House Supervisor available 24/7

Certifications & Orientation

• Required Certifications: BLS (AHA) required; ACLS preferred but not required
• Orientation: 12 non-billable hours classroom orientation plus 2 shifts on unit with preceptor

Additional Information

• Qualified Med Surg nurses may float to ICU and Acute Rehab occasionally
• Dress Code: Scrubs only; OSF-approved t-shirts allowed in any color
• Drug-Free Campus: Negative drug screen required
• Local placements accepted within 50-mile radius

Licensure & Requirements

• Active Illinois nursing license or confirmation that application process has been initiated required

Prior Travel Experience

• No explicit prior travel experience required

Summary

This is a 13-week contract for a Med Surg nurse with experience in LTAC settings, requiring strong skills in PEG tube care, central line management, tracheostomy care, and drip titration. The role involves 12-hour shifts with weekend and holiday rotations, no current call requirement, and occasional floating to ICU and rehab units. BLS certification is mandatory, ACLS preferred. Orientation includes classroom and unit-based preceptorship.
