Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)

Job Description

• Position on the Med Surg (MS) Float Unit.
• Patient Ratios: 4-6 patients per nurse.
• MS floats to multiple units including AU, OSU, GSU, NVU, CAR, GMU, AMU, EMCU, and occasionally CC units for overflow Med Surg/IMC patients.
• Must be available for orientation during the first 2 weeks of the assignment.
• 36 hours guaranteed per week with the option to pick up additional shifts.
• Every other weekend required.
• Block scheduling is not guaranteed.

Requirements

• Minimum 1 year of nursing experience required (accepting first-year travelers).
• Prior travel experience is NOT required.
• Certifications required:

  • ACLS (AHA)
  • BCLS (AHA)

Orientation & Scheduling Notes

• Orientation required during first 2 weeks.
• Holiday time off requests limited to one holiday or one adjacent day/evening (e.g., Thanksgiving Day OR the day after, but not both).

Required Documentation & Compliance

• Government-issued photo ID (Driver’s License/State ID).
• I-9 and E-Verify documentation.
• Criminal background check within 45 days of start, including lifetime search back to age 18.
• Monthly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks.
• Education verification (copy of highest degree or diploma).
• Michigan-specific requirements:

  • MI LARA fingerprinting within 45 days of start (process coordinated via DocuSign).
  • Michigan Central Registry Clearance for applicable placements (pediatrics, RRT, L&D, Echo Tech).
• Physical exam within 1 year of start.
• Drug testing: 10-panel including Marijuana/THC within 45 days of start.
• Immunizations required:

  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (must include pertussis)
  • Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 45 days of start
  • Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella (2 vaccines or positive titer)
  • Hepatitis B (titer, series, or declination)
  • Varicella (2 vaccines or positive titer)
• Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/spiritual exemption required for candidates starting after November 1.

Certifications & Competencies

• ACLS (AHA)
• BLS (AHA)
• Orientation Safety Manual Acknowledgement
• Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam (within 1 year prior to start, passing score ≥80%)
• Competency Exam in specialty (within 1 year prior to start, passing score ≥80%)

• One professional reference from a supervisor or manager required.
• Complete employment application/resume with full 7 years work history, no gaps.
• Every other weekend required; block scheduling not guaranteed.
• Must be comfortable with Med Surg patient ratios and floating to multiple units.

This position is ideal for Registered Nurses with at least 1 year of experience who are comfortable working in a Med Surg float role and are flexible with scheduling and floating assignments. Prior travel experience is not mandatory.
