Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)
Location: South Hill, Virginia
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Position in Medical-Surgical/Telemetry unit at a community hospital
- Local candidates allowed at the same rate
- New travelers allowed with minimum 2 years of nursing experience
- Community hospital experience preferred
- EPIC electronic medical record system required
Required Experience
- Specialty: Registered Nurse
- Minimum 2 years of nursing experience (higher value from description)
- Prior travel experience not explicitly required
Certifications & Licenses
- Permanent RN license required (temporary licenses not accepted)
- NURSYS verification required for all RNs
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA only
- BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA only
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) - AHA only
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Procedure) - as applicable
- TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) - as applicable
- State-specific fingerprinting and background checks required
- HIPAA confidentiality agreement required prior to start
Background & Compliance Requirements
- Criminal background check within 60 days of start, including:
- All states lived/worked in past 7 years
- State of permanent residence check
- VA Statewide Repository Search
- Sex offender registry
- Education verification (degree from NLN or CCNE accredited program)
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start
- Fingerprinting per Virginia State Police requirements (may pend at start with proof of submission)
- Virginia Central Registry (CPS) search and documentation required for certain units (Pediatrics, NICU, Behavioral Health, Labor and Delivery)
Health & Immunization Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year attesting ability to meet job demands
- Fit mask test within 1 year prior to start (N95 or PAPR required)
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccine or declination required
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within required timeframes
- Annual TB questionnaire required
- Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella titers required; boosters if low titers
- Hepatitis B titer, vaccine series, or declination accepted
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption required (no declinations accepted without exemption)
- Drug testing within 30-60 days of start (9-panel minimum, instant screens not accepted)
- Latex questionnaire required prior to start
Competencies & Testing
- Medication/Pharmacology competency exam required for RNs
- Color blindness testing required
- Abuse reporting competency covering physical/sexual abuse, domestic violence, neglect/exploitation of vulnerable adults
- Unit-specific competency exams and certifications may apply
Orientation & Facility Specifics
- Orientation includes exams/tests such as Pharmacology, Point of Care Testing, Airborne Precaution Mask Fitting
- Basic Knowledge Assessment Tool (BKAT) for Tele/Step-Down, Progressive Care, ICU units
- Completion of assigned learning modules (~6 hours) during orientation week required
- Candidates must bring mask (cloth acceptable), non-wireless headphones, and laptop or cell phone (notify if not available)
- Photo for badge required with specific guidelines (neutral background, no hats/glasses obstructing face, etc.)
