Description

Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)

Location: Rochester, New York
Specialty: Registered Nurse

Unit Description

  • 14-bed overflow med/surg telemetry unit for ED boarder patients
  • Flex space inside GI Endoscopy area; patient census may fluctuate based on demand
  • Weekend coverage every other week (EOW)
  • Float required
  • Previous charge nurse experience preferred
  • Unit accepts first-time travelers
  • Minimal return to office (RTO) restrictions
  • Locals accepted only if within 75 miles
  • Block scheduling may be accommodated but not guaranteed

Required Certifications & Skills

  • BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA provider/instructor/RQI accepted
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA provider/instructor/RQI accepted (as required by unit)
  • PALS, NRP, TNCC, EFM, NIH Stroke Certification as required by unit
  • EPIC experience required
  • Competencies including medication/pharmacology exam, color blindness testing, and general competency exams as required
  • Orientation Safety Manual acknowledgment required
  • State license primary source verification within 30 days of start
  • NURSYS verification within 30 days of start

Clinical Skills & Responsibilities

  • Med/Surg Telemetry nursing skills
  • Competent in IV placement (PICC team involvement)
  • Interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
  • Use of Rapid Response/Code teams
  • Peripheral line care and management
  • Oxygen administration (nasal cannula, oxygen tanks)
  • Non-invasive airway management
  • Isolation precautions

Experience Requirements

  • Minimum 1 year of nursing experience in specialty (med/surg telemetry)
  • Prior travel experience NOT required

Health & Compliance Requirements

Candidates must complete the following health-related requirements and lab work within 5 days of signing the contract:

  • Physical exam (within 1 year, updated annually)
  • Fit mask test (within 1 year, updated annually)
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray (within 1 year)
  • TB questionnaire (in lieu of annual TB test renewal)
  • Immunizations or titers for:
    • Rubeola (Measles)
    • Mumps
    • Rubella
    • Hepatitis B
    • Varicella
  • Drug screening within 30 days of start (includes amphetamines, cocaine, fentanyl, heroin, opiates, etc.)
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or signed declination (required during flu season)
  • Snellen eye exam (within 1 year)
  • COVID vaccination copy preferred but not required

Background & Verification Requirements

  • Government-issued photo ID required
  • 7-year criminal background check (including felony checks) within 3 months of start
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 3 months of start, run monthly
  • Education verification from primary source required (no hard copy degrees accepted)
  • Foreign equivalency evaluation if education obtained internationally
  • Transcript/diploma required if no education verification on file
  • Employment application and work history verification required
  • References (2 within 3 years) required for certain candidates
  • Facility-specific documents including photo for badge and pre-employment compliance attestations

State-Specific Requirements (New York)

  • NYS Nurse Aide Registry (if applicable) within 3 months of start
  • NYS Criminal Background Check Fingerprint Results (for certain units)
  • Disciplinary Action Search Results (for certain units)
  • Sex Offender Registry Search within 30 days of start
  • NY Medicaid Exclusion List check within 3 months of start, run monthly

Dress Code

  • Scrubs: Navy blue or white

This position offers an opportunity to work in a dynamic med/surg telemetry overflow unit with flexible scheduling and support for first-time travel nurses.
