Description

Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)

Location: Rochester, New York
Specialty: Registered Nurse

Contract Length: 13 weeks


Unit Description

  • 14 bed overflow med/surg telemetry unit for ED boarder patients
  • Flex space inside GI Endoscopy area; patient census may vary based on demand
  • Weekend coverage every other week (EOW)
  • Float required
  • Open to block scheduling (not guaranteed)
  • Locals accepted only if within 75 miles
  • Pending license not accepted
  • Minimal Return to Origin (RTO) restrictions

Required Experience & Skills

  • Minimum 1 year of nursing experience (higher value confirmed)
  • Previous charge nurse experience preferred
  • Unit accepts first-time travelers
  • EPIC experience required
  • Competencies include:
    • Med/Surg Telemetry nursing
    • IV placement competency (PICC team involvement)
    • Dysrhythmia interpretation and management
    • Use of Rapid Response/Code teams
    • Peripheral line care/management
    • Oxygen administration (nasal cannula, oxygen tanks)
    • Non-invasive airway management
    • Isolation precautions

Certifications Required

  • BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA provider/instructor/RQI accepted
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA provider/instructor/RQI accepted
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) - as required by unit
  • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) - as required by unit
  • TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) - as required by unit
  • EFM (Electronic Fetal Monitoring) - as required by unit
  • NIH Stroke Certification - required for all RNs except birthing units & OR
  • Orientation Safety Manual Acknowledgement
  • State License Primary Source Verification within 30 days of start
  • NURSYS Verification within 30 days of start

Health & Compliance Requirements

Candidates must complete health-related requirements and lab work within 5 days of signing the contract:

  • Physical exam (within 1 year, updated annually)
  • Fit mask test (within 1 year, updated annually)
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray (within 1 year)
  • TB questionnaire (in lieu of annual TB test renewal)
  • Immunizations or titers for:
    • Rubeola (Measles)
    • Mumps
    • Rubella
    • Hepatitis B
    • Varicella
  • Drug screening (within 30 days of start)
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or signed declination (required during flu season)
  • Eye exam (Snellen, within 1 year)
  • COVID vaccination copy preferred but not required

Background & Verification Requirements

  • Government-issued photo ID required
  • 7-year criminal background check (felony checks) within 3 months of start
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 3 months of start, run monthly
  • Foreign equivalency education evaluation if applicable
  • Education verification from primary source (no hard copies accepted)
  • Transcript/diploma if no education verification on file
  • Employment application required
  • Work history verification (at least 2 past employments verified)
  • References (2 within 3 years) required for Aya candidates only
  • Color blind testing required (not annual)
  • Competency exams as required by profession/specialty

State-Specific Requirements (New York)

  • NYS Nurse Aide Registry (for LTC, ElderOne, Home Care, Hospice Care) within 3 months of start
  • NYS Criminal Background Check Fingerprint Results (for certain units)
  • Disciplinary Action Search Results (for certain units)
  • Sex Offender Registry Search Results within 30 days of start
  • NY Medicaid Exclusion List check within 3 months of start, run monthly
