Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Opportunity

Location: Dayton, Ohio
Specialty: Registered Nurse (RN)
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Description

• Shift Options: 36 or 48 hours (OT paid after 48 hours)
• Unit: Step-Down (SD) / Progressive Care Unit (PCU)
• Patient Ratios: Target 1:4, can be up to 1:5-6
• Nursing Model: Trialing team nursing (two nurses + PCT partner to care for a group of patients) with possible primary nursing depending on trial status
• Patient Population: COPD, CHF, Pneumonia, Flu, Sepsis, Diabetic Ketoacidosis, Post-COVID
• Care Includes: Telemetry, drips (insulin, heparin, Cardizem), vents, bipaps, trach care (no orally intubated patients)
• Support: Respiratory Therapist available
• Scrubs: Navy Blue

Requirements

• Experience: Minimum 1.5 years in specialty with some level 1 or 2 experience preferred
• Unit Experience: Must have Step-Down (SD) or PCU experience; ICU experience does NOT count toward SD/PCU experience
• Ventilator Experience: Required
• EPIC Experience: Required
• Certifications:

  • BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) with ability to read and interpret EKG strips
• Competency: Must pass an online EKG telemetry competency assessment before starting
• Respiratory Protection: Nurses will be fitted for N95 masks prior to working on the unit unless PAPR is offered/needed
• Prior Travel Experience: Preferred but not required

Floating & Scheduling

• Traveler will be first to float at Premier's discretion, floating in/out of specialty clusters
• Floating locations may include main campus and nearby campuses within 15 miles
• Must be available to work every other weekend and holidays
• Facility reserves the right to cancel shifts due to low census with appropriate notice

Documentation & Compliance Requirements

• Valid Ohio RN license with primary source verification
• Current BLS and ACLS certifications (AHA preferred)
• Pass Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam within 1 year or complete within 72 hours of contract signing (3 attempts max)
• Physical exam within 2 years indicating fitness for duty
• Negative TB test or chest x-ray (annual update if past positive)
• Drug screening within 12 months (9 or 10 panel including marijuana) and lab work within 72 hours of contract signing
• Flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season
• Respiratory Safety clearance within 1 year, renewed annually
• Background checks including 7-year criminal history, EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG
• References: 2 professional references within 2 years (1 must be manager/supervisor/charge RN) or employment verification if references unavailable
• Skills checklist updated within 1 year
• Employment application/resume required

Additional Notes

• ICU experience does not substitute for required SD/PCU experience
• Must show 1:5 patient ratio experience in application work history for SD or PCU to be considered
• Travel experience preferred but not mandatory
• Floating assignments will be medically appropriate
• Premier Health reserves the right to cancel shifts or agreements with notice and without penalty

This position is ideal for RNs with Step-Down or PCU experience who are comfortable with ventilator care, telemetry, and working in a team nursing environment. Prior travel experience is a plus but not required.
