Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Job - Amarillo, Texas

Position Details

  • Block Scheduling: Case by case
  • Documentation System: EPIC (experience required within last 6 months)
  • Scrub Color: Any, no logos
  • Telemetry: Monitored in a centralized unit
  • Charge Nurse: Free floating charge nurse available
  • Support Staff: Patient Care Technicians, Patient Transporters, House discharge nurse floats across all departments
  • Parking: Free proximal covered parking
  • Meals: Discounted meals available
  • Local Traveler Rule: Must live at least 50 miles from the facility to qualify

Experience Requirements

  • Years of Experience Required: Minimum 1 year in specialty
  • Prior Travel Experience: Not required (1st time travelers accepted)

Certifications Required

  • BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale)
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - as applicable
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) - as applicable
  • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Procedure) - as applicable
  • CHEMO (Chemotherapy) - as applicable
  • TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) - as applicable
  • Management of Assaultive Behavior (MAB) - as applicable
  • CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) - as applicable
  • NIH Stroke Certification - as applicable, expires annually

Competency Requirements

  • Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam (80% score or meet/exceed Angoff score)
  • Color Blind Testing (online)
  • Competency Exam (minimum 80% or meet/exceed Angoff score)
  • Core Parts I, II, III (for subcontractors, annual completion required)
  • Orientation Safety Manual Acknowledgement (HIPAA compliance)

Background and Documentation Requirements

  • 7-year background check within 1 year of start, updated annually
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM check upon hire
  • HHS/OIG check upon hire
  • Education verification (must verify highest level of education)
  • Transcript or diploma may be accepted temporarily if education verification is delayed
  • Fingerprinting (time sensitive for New Mexico placements only)
  • Photo for badge (clear headshot required)
  • Complete application/resume required
  • Unit-specific skills checklist (annual)
  • 7-year work history verification required

Health and Immunization Requirements

  • Physical exam within 12 months of start
  • Fit mask test within 1 year of start, must renew annually
  • Adult Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccine within 10 years
  • Negative TB test (2-step PPD, QGOLD, or TSPOT) within 1 year; chest X-ray and questionnaire if positive
  • Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines; boosters required if negative/equivocal
  • Hepatitis B: Positive titer, series, or declination accepted; boosters if negative/equivocal
  • Varicella: Positive titer, 2 vaccines, or physician-documented history; boosters if negative/equivocal
  • Negative 10-panel drug screen within 90 days of start (includes amphetamines, barbiturates, benzodiazepines, cocaine, marijuana, methadone, opiates, oxycodone, etc.)
  • Additional onsite drug screen during orientation (only one attempt allowed; failure results in cancellation)
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or agency-approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season (Oct 1 - Mar 31)
  • COVID-19 vaccination or medical/religious exemption required (declinations not accepted)

  • Local discounted hotels available
  • Free floating charge nurse and support staff available to assist
  • Prior travel experience is not required; first-time travelers are accepted
  • Must comply with local traveler radius rule (must live at least 50 miles away)

This position is suitable for Registered Nurses with at least 1 year of experience in Medical Surgical and Orthopedic patient care, who have recent EPIC experience and hold the required certifications. Prior travel experience is not mandatory.
