Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (Interventional Radiology)

Location: Charleston, West Virginia
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Details

  • Shift: 4x10 hour shifts, weekdays 7:30 AM - 4:00 PM
  • On-Call: Every 5th weekend on call rotation
  • Patient Population: Adults & Geriatrics
  • Patient Ratio: 1:1 staffing ratio
  • Start Date: Orientation occurs every other week on Thursdays
  • Orientation: First 2 days in a classroom setting, then unit orientation
  • Guaranteed Hours: 40 hours per week
  • Float: May be floated to General Lab CDL
  • Schedule: No blocked schedules accommodated
  • Travel Radius: 100-mile radius rule (75-99 miles requires facility approval)

Experience & Requirements

  • Specialty: Interventional Radiology Registered Nurse
  • Required RN Experience: Minimum 2 years
  • Prior Travel Experience: Not required; first-time travelers allowed but must have Interventional Radiology experience
  • Licensure: Must have active West Virginia RDCS - Adult license to start; can submit with pending license
  • Certifications Required:
    • BLS (AHA only, no pending certs allowed)
    • ACLS (AHA only, no pending certs allowed) — Not required for certain units (3 South, 3 West, 4 West, 4 South, 5 West)
  • Special Procedures/Unit Details:
    • Angiogram, Fistulogram, Permacath, EVAR, TCAR, TAVR, MitraClip, Mechanical Thrombectomy, Embolization
  • Common Patient Diagnoses:
    • Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD), Coronary Artery Disease (CAD), Peripheral Artery Disease (PAD), Peripheral Vascular Disease (PVD), Stenosis, Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm (AAA), Stroke, Aneurysm

Orientation & Training

  • Orientation is two days (Thursday and Friday) covering Cerner Infusion Management
  • Inservice training modules must be completed approximately 1 week before start (approx. 4 hours)
  • Pass/Fail Testing required for Nursing candidates: EKG Exam, Medication Calculation Exam, Blood Administration Test
  • Candidates must review facility-specific policies including Blood Administration, Dress Code, Math Calculation Packet, and EKG Review prior to start (review only, no test at orientation)

Required Documentation & Screening

  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Social Security Card (legible)
  • Background Check: 7-year criminal background within 30 days of start, including SSN trace, counties, sex offender, national and international searches if applicable
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start (completed independently)
  • National Sex Offender Registry check within 30 days of start (completed independently)
  • Primary Source Verification of State License and NURSYS verification within 30 days of start
  • Physical Exam within 1 year of start, signed by appropriate medical provider, confirming good health and no physical limitations
  • Drug Screen within 30 days of start, including a comprehensive panel (no placeholders or pending results accepted)
  • Annual Fit Mask Testing (N95 3M 1860 Small/Regular or Aura 9205) required; onsite fit testing may be accommodated if no clinic within 100 miles
  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccination required (declinations not accepted; medical/religious exemptions require approval)
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 3 months of start; annual TB questionnaire required for positive TB responders
  • Immunizations: Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella (vaccines or positive titers required; boosters may be started pending)
  • Flu Vaccine: Required during flu season (Oct 1 - Mar 31) unless medical exemption documented; not required outside this window
  • COVID-19 Vaccine: Not required; proof of vaccination or signed declination accepted

Additional Requirements

  • Must complete annual skills checklist for specialty
  • One reference required from a manager, supervisor, or charge nurse within 1 year of start
  • Pass/Fail testing and competency exams required for nursing candidates
  • Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) certification required for certain units (ER, Surgical & Trauma ICU, Trauma Stepdown, Behavioral Health)
  • Candidates must comply with facility-specific forms including vaccination exemption requests, time and attendance, medical release, and liability forms

Notes

  • Permanent employees cannot return as travelers for 2 years after last permanent day worked at this facility
  • No accommodation for blocked schedules
  • Candidate must notify manager of latex allergy if applicable
  • PAPR accommodations available if unable to pass fit testing due to facial hair or face shape
