Registered Nurse (RN) - Emergency Room (ER)

Location: Lillington, North Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Details

  • Specialty: Registered Nurse - Emergency Room (ER)
  • Required Years of Experience: 3 years in ER
  • First-time Travelers: Accepted
  • Weekend Requirement: Yes, every other weekend
  • On-call: No
  • Float Requirement: Must be able and willing to float between both campuses within scope
  • Locals Accepted: No (50-mile radius rule applies)
  • Pending License: Not accepted
  • Guaranteed Hours: Call off policy of 2 shifts per 13-week assignment; after that, all contracted shifts are guaranteed
  • Staffing Ratios: 1:4

Certifications Required

  • BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
  • CPI (Crisis Prevention Intervention)
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
  • NIH Stroke Certification (updated annually)

Special Requirements & Policies

  • Return Staff Policy: Must be gone for 1 year to return as a traveler
  • System Contract Limit: Maximum of 2 contracts (can extend once), then must be gone for 6 months before returning
  • Background Check: Required within 6 months of start (includes SSN trace, 7-year county residence, nationwide search, sex offender search, and international search if applicable)
  • Drug Testing: Negative 10-panel drug test required within 30 days prior to start
  • Physical Exam: Required within 1 year, updated annually
  • Immunizations & Health Documents:
    • TDAP vaccine within last 10 years (no declinations accepted for new hires)
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year
    • Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella: Titer or 2 vaccines required (no declinations accepted for new hires)
    • Hepatitis B: Vaccine series, positive titer, or signed declination accepted
    • Flu Vaccine: Required year-round; medical or religious exemptions require facility approval and must be resubmitted annually
  • COVID-19 Vaccines: Not required but accepted if available

Competency & Testing Requirements

  • Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam: Required and must be renewed annually
  • Pass/Fail Testing (EKG/Medication): Required for awareness; candidates have 3 attempts to pass with remediation required after failures
  • Acknowledgement of Pass/Fail Testing required for multiple units including ER and ICUs

Scheduling & Work Environment

  • Block scheduling accommodation: Open to discussion
  • Floating between units and campuses required
  • No local hires within 50 miles allowed

Additional Notes

  • Multiple facility-specific documents and acknowledgments must be reviewed and signed prior to start (e.g., confidentiality agreements, job descriptions, emergency contact forms)
  • Photo for badge required promptly after acceptance (passport-style, professional)
  • Orientation typically occurs on Monday, with schedule provided by unit representative
