Registered Nurse (MS/Tele RN) - Rochester, New York

Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Details

  • Specialty: Medical-Surgical/Telemetry Registered Nurse (MS/Tele RN)
  • Patient Ratios:
    • Day/Evening: 5:1 (stretch 6-7)
    • Night: 6-7:1 (stretch 8-10 if staff calls in)
  • Support Staff: Patient Care Technicians (PCTs) handle vital signs, blood glucose checks, EKGs, and activities of daily living.
  • Phlebotomy: In-house team performs peripheral lab draws; nursing responsible for PICC and central lines.
  • Floating: Required to float within scope to MS, ICU, and ED units.
  • Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend (EOW)
  • Block Scheduling: May be accommodated but not guaranteed.
  • Locals: Not accepted within 75 miles.
  • Pending License: Not accepted.
  • On-call: Not required.
  • Scrub Color: Any combination of navy and white.
  • Charting System: Epic (preferred).
  • Special Equipment: Hoyer lifts.
  • Patient Diagnoses: Cardiac and stroke patients.
  • Special Skills Required:
    • Interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
    • Use of Rapid Response Teams
    • Peripheral line care/management
    • Oxygen delivery (nasal cannula, face masks, portable tanks)
    • Non-invasive airway management
    • Isolation precautions

Experience & Certifications

  • Required Years of Experience: 1 year in specialty
  • First-time Travelers: Accepted
  • Required Certifications:
    • BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA provider/instructor/RQI accepted
    • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA provider/instructor/RQI accepted, as required by unit
    • PALS, NRP, TNCC, EFM, NIH Stroke Certification (as required by unit)
  • Prior Travel Experience: Not explicitly required

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

  • Government-issued photo ID (Driver’s License/State ID)
  • Background checks including 7-year criminal history, EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG
  • Education verification and foreign equivalency evaluation if applicable
  • State license primary source verification within 30 days of start
  • NURSYS verification within 30 days of start
  • Facility-specific documents including photo for badge and pre-employment compliance attestations
  • Health documents (must be completed within 5 days of contract signing):
    • Physical exam (within 1 year)
    • Fit mask test (annual)
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray (within 1 year)
    • Immunizations: Rubeola, Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella (titers or vaccines as required)
    • Drug screening (within 30 days of start)
    • Flu vaccination or signed declination during flu season
    • Eye exam (Snellen, within 1 year)
    • COVID vaccination copy preferred but not required
  • References: 2 references within 3 years (required for Aya candidates)
  • Employment application and work history verification required
  • Skills checklist required annually

State-Specific Requirements (New York)

  • NYS Nurse Aide Registry (if applicable) within 3 months of start for certain care areas
  • Fingerprinting and disciplinary action search for Mental Health, Behavioral Health, Home Health Aide, and LTC units (if applicable)
  • Sex Offender Registry search within 30 days of start
  • NY Medicaid Exclusion List check within 3 months of start

This position offers a dynamic environment with diverse patient populations and requires flexibility to float between units. Ideal for RNs with at least 1 year of experience in medical-surgical or telemetry nursing who are comfortable with cardiac and stroke patient care and have the required certifications.
